Nice to see that in your country married people get the same amount of money as singles who co-habitate, unlike where Kaz lives. I believe your system is much better. I think all countries should treat everyone equally, no such thing as a marriage disctinction from the government.
I don't know how exactly it works in Finland, but in the Netherlands it's very similar to the Belgian system.

I thought you said that the Belian system made the distinction between cohabitating singles and married.

20k-ish seems reasonable under normal circumstances.
Here you said 20K for a family of 4, but a single mom with 2 kids would get 16k. I just don't think that a single guy would get just 4k in government support.

I think you're a bit confused.

Just going with what you've told me.

You said 16k for single parent with kids, 20k for family with kids.

That's about the correct ballpark, but I couldn't give you the exact figures since they would depend on specific cirsumstances and I'm not an expert on Dutch law. In any case, it does not depend on marriage, nor have I stated or implied that it does. I'm not sure where you are headed with this, anyway.

So how much would the total be if a woman who had two kids were to cohabitate with a single (male or woman)? I mean for both groups combined. Please give how much each adult would receive from public assitance if the person did not have a job.

There would be no difference in terms of gender or marital status. As for the exact figure, I will repeat what I said: I don't know all the details of the law so if you want more precise figures than my (probably inaccurate) ballpark estimates you're going to have to do some research yourself.

If they are cohabiting they would or should get the same as a married couple with the same amount of kids in the household.

I'm not talking about housing allowance, I'm talking about money for spending.

Sorry, I thought you actually knew what you were talking about when you threw the numbers out there.

So am I, I am talking about all the income support a defined household might be entitled to.

So it goes by households, not by the individual?

It goes by the individual depending on the household circumstances.

Since you are so interested in this topic, here is a website detailing how it works (Google translate should provide a reasonably accurate translation). Note that additional benefits (such as rent subsidies) may apply. Also note that "married" here means living together (the link explains).

http://www.rechtopbijstand.nl/inhoud/index/pid/967

A couple will get approximately $21k/year (in total, not each) plus additional benefits.
