Given that whoever is president of the USA acts like he's running the entire world, maybe the entire world should get a vote to elect them.
lol.. tongue in cheek a bit here:
maybe not whoever and maybe not the entire world.. but if usa wants to be leader of a new world order then the new world should be able to elect the sheriff.

Due to newly discovered drift in the tectonic plates borders are to be drawn from outer space. Canada is slipping over the the real border all the time so all USA has to do is get new border setting laws through and stake a claim for Canada in about 20 million years..
Heck or is that vice versa..😕

I don't think the "We can do without their cheap and tacky goods" argument is going to do any more to hurt China than it hurt the Japanese or the South Koreans all those years ago: cheap and tacky goods are popular. The fact is that China is now a huge player on the world market, there is no veto (unless you want to run a siege economy and make coffee out of aluminium) by any other country, and this is already reducing the political influence of Washington even in its own notional backyard of South America. This will probably be to the ultimate advantage of the average American because it is increasingly self-defeating for the American state to ignore diplomacy and negotiation in favour of imperialist bravado and military adventures.

In reply to the original question, no, I don't think Canada should get the job, but in keeping with the constitution I think a lot of America's problems could be resolved by introducing a mechanism for the recall of the President once elected. For that matter, so could ours.
