@AverageJoe1
I don't have weapons in my house, my father was shot to death in a robbery at my mom and step dad's gas station and small market, step dad shot in the back mom shot in grazing blow to her head, dad died a couple weeks later of expanded brain.
So I have not had any kind of weapon ever since.
I suppose I am supposed to now be living in fear because of what happened to my family but that doesn't work for me, I DON'T live in fear so I don't feel any overriding need to have some kind of weapon, besides we have a house full of kids, grandkids and such and statistically a LOT of children die from accidental discharge of daddy's 45 so I won't have such weapons in MY house.
My wife has a best friend in Ohio and she clearly lives in fear, carries with her all the time but that is not for us.
I guess part of my not living in fear is because I am over 6 feet and 200 pounds and I can take care of myself, I do carry a pocket knife but never EVER had to pull it out in anger.
Sure, there are folks who want ZERO guns in ANYBODY'S house but that is just a dream, especially here in the US where we have more guns than the entire population thanks to the NRA. I am happy to see those bastard's bankrupt.
@sonhouse saidI am truly sorry for your plight, had no idea, and sorry for so much hassle i dish at you. Bless you for raising the kids, I did some ‘reading between the lines’ in my years, and certainly see a good man here. So I wish you the best, and your family, don’t stop jousting. More fun lies ahead. AvJoe

@averagejoe1 saidUh… I think you’ll find:
Somebody answer Shav, settle him down? He is not from the USA. His borders are not wide open, such as that. His leaders are not defunding police. His leaders do not let felons out of jail within 2 days of arrest.
He apparently does listen to me
- Europe’s borders are far more open than the US’s borders (you can row here from Africa and cycle here from Mongolia… perhaps look at a map..)
- EU countries spend less on policing than the US.
- EU prison sentences are far lighter than US prison sentences. And we have far less people in prison.
I think you’re making up porky pies to suit your beliefs, rather than looking at facts and comprehending what’s wrong.
@shavixmir saidI repeat....ours are WIDE open. Are yours? Hell, a slew of Chinese slipped in with them last week. And I was not writing about police or prison, that is a different porky pie, or maybe a killie pie. Think I will have one soon, on way over for a week of golf. What pub do you spend your days in?

@averagejoe1 saidAs I’ve stated above.

It’s a global world now. Ships, planes, world wide banking, etc.
The world has become smaller. It doesn’t take 5 weeks to get from Europe to the US. It takes 24 hours to get from Europe to Australia.
This image you have of a homogenic population was already never true, but it’s only going to become more blatant.
“US culture”: think about it.
Is that the white nuclear family of the 1950’s? The hippies? The anti-war movement, Christianity, native Amaricans? New Orleans Jazz culture?
Or is it the freedom to be what you want? Which is obviously such an umbrella term it’s completely meaningless.
All things change. Your image of what you thought America was isn’t correct. And you now see changes happening which shift even further away from that wrong image you have and it frightens you. Because when you quietly sit down to reflect on the above, which you do anyways, you realise that you’ve constructed a reality in your mind (well, to be honest, others have helped you create it) which isn’t based on the facts on the ground. And you see things shifting (which they’ve always done).
To be perfectly clear: this is the same in all countries.
An example: everyone in the US should speak English (or in the Netherlands, Dutch).
This is one of those drives which are based on a false picture of reality.
There is, namely, hardly 1 country in the world, where the whole population speaks 1 language. Never has been a thing.
The Netherlands (18 million people), for example, has 2 official languages and various dialects which you can’t understand with Dutch).
France has 75 regional languages.
And in most countries a standard single language only became useful with the introduction of national curriculums. Much like a standardized time only became a thing because of the railroads.
So English in the US as a second language makes communication easier, but it never was an actual reality. And with a smaller globe, having Spanish as a second language is more realistic.
@shavixmir saidI appreciate your treatise on Europe, and 'what they do', but I don't care, myself. To put it simply (re your global reference) we have a sovereign border. Our administration has opened it up for any and all people of different cultures (race being irrelevant) to enter our land unvetted, a horde of Chinese people just rushed in.
As I’ve stated above.

I, AvJoe, am sickened by this. To your point, if we allow them in (1M a year) legally, that is fine, and it is also fine if they speak their language. But before they become citizens they should be required to speak English. Why don't you write back some flowerdy comments to muck up these simple points?
