We need a Debates Forum. We don't have one, this forum is a shoe full of sand and stones.
We could have a Political Discussion Forum where most of the current posters could play their little games. Hopefully then the Debates Forum could have a neutral moderator to enforce the normal rules of debating,

Defending Trump can't be counted as another Trump anything. We defend our President.

In the top 20 it's 15+ threads started by anti Trump people. The other 5 aren't.

@vivify saidIf someone cared enough, they could organize things to improve. For example, there could be "argue the opposite" threads where AvJoe HAS to hake the "lib" position or where No1 has to convince of that Ayn Rand is the greatest thinker of all time.

We could also have threads on general economic philosophy, threads on personal anedotes and the like.
In my recollection, in the early 2010s, we had a good mix of people who fed off each other and the discussions were more interesting. Deeper, and a bit less broken record. Posters like Teinosuke, Telerion, FMF, Melanerpes, Palynka, Rwingett, and a bunch of others etc. Even whodey (the AJ of his day, for those who don't remember) had a certain wit and was capable of a zinger or two. FMF used to start the flaming tomatoes thread every December and those got fun.
It would take a sociological study, but my hypothesis is that Duchess killed the forum. The years of stitlted nose-twitching manifestos and savage attacks provoked by mild disagreements drove away most all the erstwhile regulars. Then, with the extremely divisive politics that came with the Trump candidacy, the ideologues and broken records grabbed control of the forum, and haven't really relinquished it.
There are a handful of regulars still here from those days (No1 and SG, off the top of my head).
If we really put out minds to it, we could recapture the glory days. We could have real debates and discussions rather than just inane one-line attacks. But let's face it, most of us probably don't care enough.
