Maybe in 20 years this will be mainstream.

Even if people still die at say 80 or 90 and this technique doesn't actually make them live longer, they may live their regular lifespan with better health.

Hell, maybe they will figure a way to allow us to live TWO centuries, Wouldn't THAT throw a monkey wrench into society, eh.

SS out the window till you are 160?

What other effects would a 200 year lifespan have on humans as a civilization?

Rich getting the best treatment, so THEY live to be FIVE hundred while the poor have to put up with a mere TWO hundred year lifespan?

Yeah; I've been reading about immortality drugs since I was a kid.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Living longer could have negative effects.

I don't think the mind can handle a life that long.

Aging slower could benefit the body but the mind having to go longer could result in a bunch of old psychos.
So maybe we would have a cut off date?
Your body is younger and healthier but once you hit a certain age number the men in white coats come for you and take you to the execution chamber. 🤔

To give you a ridiculous example...

Every vampire in literature only wanted mortality and death....eventually.

You know vampires aren’t real though?
Overpopulation would be the obvious downside we’re already choking the planet like Japanese Knot Weed

I think if such a situation actually happened where the average lifespan is now in multiple centuries, it looks to me like they would have foreseen such a problem, increased population from 200 year olds still fertile so I imagine they will force sterility on those people, vasectomy? Hysterectomy?

Yeah but by the time the first generation of super long livers was dying it would effectively double the population assuming that e ermine lived to a hundred before. It’s not so much about how many kids they have, it’s how much longer the planet will have to sustain them as fully functional consumers.
Anyway it’s still a good thing to research for when we are sensible enough to half or quarter our population.

More like one tenth would be best. We humans are already using near 100% of Earth's resources which means there will be a sudden drop in availability of stuff we need..
