Please consider, regardless your philosophy of either concept, would it be healthy to insert such a conflict into this particular economy?
He makes unachievable promises, higher taxes. He has misrepresented what he can do, as he does not have the legal authority to do what he says.
The distribution of wealth would be controlled by the government???
@AverageJoe1
He also has advocated defunding the police and supports global intifada.
This will not end well for the Jews that are foolish enough to stay in the city.
@AverageJoe1 saidKamala Harris had socialist connections and ambitions.

I wont worry if I were you.
@Rajk999 saidYes, but this is a debate about ideas, and more to the point would be what our friends on the forum think about the prospects of the city having changes within it of socialist policies, when in fact, NYC is the epicenter, the global epicenter, of capitalism in the world. Socialism has never worked anywhere, and capitalism has worked everywhere. Even the Chinese moved into capitalism. So it would be fun to see our liberal friends try to convince us that this mayor has a good idea.

Note that Zahlanzi will not be able to respond, as his country dumped those liberal policies to move into capitalism..
@AverageJoe1 saidCarry on then. People who support socialism or communism have never actually travelled to these countries to see how things are. Neither will they ever learn what it is that causes prosperity. You wont get anywhere with them.

Will the city-owned groc stores have 22 diff choices of peanut butter.? They will have one. The shelves will be closer to those of Cuba, which I have seen, than the shelves of present day USA grocers.
This socialist will suggest getting eggs at a dollar a dozen, but not take into consideration the shortages of suppliers to meet the demands of the public. They cannot produce eggs so cheaply.
Such is an example of how if there are any responses to this thread, they will not round out their posting. Frankly, it would be difficult to do so, given that their total thought process is free stuff.
@Rajk999 saidTim Walz has, been to China over 30 times by his admission and is a big fan of the Chinese system.

We really dodged a bullet last November.
@AverageJoe1 saidAre you seriously interested in the opinion of these people?
Wonder if Shav and Zahlanzi have any idea.
@Cliff-Mashburn saidChina is actually an interesting case of combining two systems.
Tim Walz has, been to China over 30 times by his admission and is a big fan of the Chinese system.

One that keeps the government stable.
The other keeps the people working hard.
China has a communist government.
China also has a capitalist economy.
This is why nobody in the world can compete with them on the world markets.
@Rajk999 saidWell, i am here to see why people that are different than I am can believe the things they do,,,,,,or, as an example, eat what they do..Hagelslag is crap food for bkfst in NLands, you cannot eat 2 bites of it. Yuk. And their weird way of conversing that is like lip reading....not a sound. (though I like that one!)
Are you seriously interested in the opinion of these people?
Then you have people in the US who think nothing of having a person pay for the expenses of another. Usually through collected taxes. A person who does not work, who is not part of the truly destitute, considers themselves entitled to the work product of others. Such as that.
How can they think that a district court judge can void a Presidential action? Any action, I guess. The Marauder person said once that the public should vote on whether to do something (like bomb Iran). How in the WORLD can they think that?? We all know that only Sonhouse has the military experience to render such a vote.
So on an so on. Problem is, they never tell us. They only whine and write about Trump. Hey...WHY don't they like Trump? So many questions.

@AverageJoe1 saidWhat you refuse to do is recognize POTUS abuse of power.

Having your own SECRET POLICE is abuse of power FULL STOP,
Wanting to kill the citizenship of American citizens IS abuse of power.
Congress and courts are there for one issue and others but one reason they are there is to counter ILLEGAL actions by a POTUS, Republican OR Democrat, like Clinton got IMPEACHED just like Trump, a democrat AND a republican BOTH impeached for what they saw as overreach of POTUS powers but SCOTUS is ALSO going rogue, total rightwing swing WANTING to give POTUS king like powers. THEY need rounding up and FLOGGED. They are anything BUT impartial. They are TOTALLY MAGITES.
That is the whole POINT of counterbalance.
Trump is CLEARLY going rogue with his OBVIOUS desire to be king and SCOTUS castrating lower courts for issues showing Trump CLEARLY thumbing his nose at constitutional amendments is WHY they are there, to stop an obvious rogue president working to become a dictator.
Remember, he SAID and I QUOTE, 'I will be a dictator on DAY ONE' That was not Trump joking around as much as you would like to spin it, he MEANT WHAT HE SAID except he didn't stop that on day 2 or 3 or now.
@sonhouse saidHas there been a determination that he has abused his power...That is , by someone other than you?? 😆

@Rajk999 saidMamdani is a Democratic Socialist. It is mendacious to clip off the Democratic part of the label to score cheap political points. Mamdani's policy proposals are very much in line with the policies of Democratic Socialist parties in, say, the Nordic countries.

EDIT: I am skeptical, however, that New York City needs city-owned grocery stores. From what I've read, there is one grocery store per 8500 residents. But I don't know what the geographical distribution of the stores looks like.
There are many city-owned grocery stores in the US. They have the same wide selection of products as privately-owned stores, and look much the same. But like mom-and-pop stores they can't compete with the likes of Walmart and large grocery chains, which get volume-adjusted discounts from wholesalers.
This all speaks to the problems communities have with being able to manage their own affairs and have agency over their development. Such basic human agency has been long since crushed to dust by the increasing concentration of wealth and capital at the very top—a dynamic that looks ever more like it's approaching its end game, with a collapse to a more human-scaled mode of economics probably coming within a generation or two.
