@Soothfast saidIf that is the case then then he might do some good for NY, but with those leaning toward socialism the tendency is to become too soft. Social welfare policies along the lines of what exists in Europe, whre they skim a couple % of the top income earners is good for helping the poor. What he says that is not good so far, and maybe its too early to say, he is going to open the border as much as he can and oppose the controlled immigration policy of the govt. As Europe is now finding out, this policy is not the best. Immigration is good if it excludes undesirable and criminal elements.
Mamdani is a Democratic Socialist. It is mendacious to clip off the Democratic part of the label to score cheap political points. Mamdani's policy proposals are very much in line with the policies of Democratic Socialist parties in, say, the Nordic countries.
@Rajk999 saidCities don't have authority to dictate border policy. New York City is not Singapore.

@Soothfast saidIm just quoting what he said. Apparently there is some leeway regarding how these city mayors influence immigration, not the policy but how the policies are enforced. Here is what Perplexity said:
Cities don't have authority to dictate border policy. New York City is not Singapore.
While New York cannot regulate immigration itself, it can influence how state and local agencies interact with federal immigration enforcement. New York has enacted laws and policies that:
Limit or prohibit state and local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities (such as ICE detainers or sharing information about immigrants).
Restrict ICE and CBP access to non-public areas of state and local property without a judicial warrant.
Ensure that individuals in custody are informed of their rights before any ICE interview.
Prevent state and local resources from being used to enforce federal immigration laws.
Provide certain benefits and protections to immigrants, such as access to emergency services and legal representation, regardless of immigration status.
Sanctuary Policies
New York City and other localities in the state have “sanctuary” policies, which aim to protect immigrants by limiting cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. These policies ensure that all residents, regardless of immigration status, can access city services without fear of being reported to ICE.
@AverageJoe1 saidBy about TWO HUNDRED lawsuits courts said he DID abuse his power and so LOST TWO HUNDRED TIMES IN COURT.
Has there been a determination that he has abused his power...That is , by someone other than you?? 😆
Courts doing their JOB which is to curb abuse of power of POTUS.
No matter Dem or repub. Both dem and repubs have lost cases where their party POTUS did something STUPID.
@AverageJoe1 saidRIGHT. So you don't even understand the difference between US citizens born here where PARENTS were born here and US citizens born here where the parents, one or both, are born elsewhere.
???? We can hardly kill the 'citizenship' of someone who is not a citizen. 🤔
That is the CRUX of Birthright citizenship.
You born here, you are a US citizen FULL STOP
14th amendment of the constitution enshrines that.
The only way you can circumvent that is congress changes the amendment with a 2/3 YES margin.
A PRESIDENT SAYING birthright citizenship is BULLCRAP and starts attacking people with the intent to deport or whatever by revoking their citizenship because MAMA or PAPA was NOT born here is TOTALLY ILLEGAL.
THAT is called ABUSE OF POWER.
@sonhouse saidSo, you say that the constitution provision was NOT about children of slaves. Man, a lot of people are saying that that is what was meant by framers. You jave me so confused.

@AverageJoe1 saidWhere the FK did I say ANYTHING about slaves? The whole POINT of the amendment was to say CLEARLY EVERY BABY born here was a CITIZEN which was written that way BECAUSE there was earlier laws trying to do the opposite, a slave born here was NOT a citizen.
So, you say that the constitution provision was NOT about children of slaves. Man, a lot of people are saying that that is what was meant by framers. You jave me so confused.
THAT WAS WHAT the 14th was all about.
You are one DENSE SOB.
@sonhouse saidNONONONONO. I am the one who mentioned slaves. In the vein of who is entitled to birthrights.

You need to pick it up .
@AverageJoe1 saidThere is NO issue with slavery and citizenship, that was a law that slaves would never be citizens till the 14th amendment was past to clear that particular inhumane law was done away with.
NONONONONO. I am the one who mentioned slaves. In the vein of who is entitled to birthrights.

So why did you even bring up the slave issue?
Trump wants to revoke citizenship on a person born here and SCREW the 14th amendment.
He wants the new law to say ONLY if your parents, BOTH parents were born here are you a citizen.
THAT goes DIRECTLY against the 14th amendment which says right there that Trump THUMBS his nose at the constitution and in this case specifically the 14th amendment.
That can legally ONLY be changed by a 2/3 vote in HOUSE AND SENATE not some EO of a rogue POTUS.
@sonhouse saidThis one says Trump wants to screw the 14th, and expects us to propound on that possibilty. Could it happen? 😕

Then we are to read the rest of his post.
@Earl-of-Trumps saidThat is of course, racist. A problem with the Forum is that Sue et al do not recognize this in their own party, nor tell us that they do not agree with these racist people in the dem party.
So the dEmOcRat wants to raise property taxes on white-owned properties??
the racist democrats must love that!
Also, I could be wrong, is it constitutional to have WHITE people pay more tax than colored people?
Two huge issues, but Shouse wants to comment on Trump's girlfriend trouble. He never comments on Clinton's girlfirends and payoff. Is that racist? Or is it constiututional ?!??!!?!?
@AverageJoe1 saidYou are a FKING Trump propagandist and could care less for democracy. That is your whole MO, get in good with the coming dictator, get a great pushy job there, feed him some money, get some high office.

You fool nobody.
@sonhouse saidHow can my post be trying to fool someone? I simply asked if making White people pay more taxes than colored people is constitutional, and also, is it racist?
