I don't think that is true. I'm sure he could find something to replace it, different people in different parts of the world obsess about fidderent things and it's not always religion..

I do not think this would be possible, for several reasons:

1. Even though there are many intelligent people in these forums, that is people who can weigh the pros and cons of religion as they see them, the majority of the human race is rather lacking in this visionary ability and usually need guidence. Without major religions, cults would move in a fill the void. If you think that the religious are brainwashed now . . . .

2. Even intelligent people begin to wonder about things that appear to be out of our control, at least for the moment; that is, the spirit, emotion, and especially death.

3. Very successful organizations focusing on alcoholism and addiction (I'm thinking of AA, NA, and other associated groups) while not being religious themselves still adhere to a strong spiritual idea, that is that we must surrender to a higher power to find control in our lives. This program is very successful and it would not be hard to see how it can be, and is, applied to every day life.

4. Humans are all cursed with being individual without the ability to truly act as an individual. Therefore we are drawn to form groups that suggest some sort of connection between people, some sort of reason that would tell us we are not so alone. This connection, even if imaginary, must be spiritual in nature. There are some poeple who find this connection though other means, say music, and a blessed few who immerse themselves in work or thought to escape it. And there is always sports, but that is more of a surrogate battle than religion, though there are similarities. The masses, however, are relitively unintelligent, untalented, and pathetic people who need the bonding of religion.

I'd hazard a guess that there would be less breeding if religion were not here.

Do you only define what is a religion by if there is a god involved?

Why not more breeding and with less care on what is right and wrong?

Well, actually, probably just as much if not more intercourse, but with no religion attempting restrictions on birth control, sterilization etc. there would probably be fewer births. Of course, lack of religion would not increase intelligence, so the difference would be negligible at best.

Are you suggesting God without religion, or religion without God?

Either way it's a good point.

And that idiotic quote is the opium of your masses. Honestly, if you want to sound intelligent, be original.
