If it was settled out of court, they generally do not release the terms of the settlement. Where did you get your info?

That disgusting crybaby got some money? For being a jerk? He had it coming, if it'd of been me making the stop I would have kept my finger on the go button until I smelled burning flesh and laughed the entire time. What a punk.

He's a member of what essayist Joseph Epstein refers to as "the Kindergarchy."

The officer used a taser on a guy because he wouldn't sign a traffic citation. A taser is supposed to be used for self-defense or for controlling someone who is a some type of a threat, not a guy who's a bit pissed off about a ticket and is walking back to his car. The officer should have been fired and $40,000 sounds like the State of Utah got off light.

He did NO SUCH THING> Look at the video again. The idiot turned away and started walking back to his van as if he was going to just leave. At that point the officer had to stop him or give chase. He stopped him. He also reached in his pocket as he turned, which is an immediate red flag. The guy had it coming, all he had to do was cooperate and not act like a spoiled child.

It never ceases to amaze me how people put such benign spins on their side of the story.."man tased for not signing ticket"...nonsense. he was tased because he was out of control, police officers do not have the option to allow people to just leave when they feel like it, and stand there helplessly as they drive off.

He had to do no such thing. He had already given the motorist the ticket and that should have been that. Instead, the cop went nuts. So what if the guy was arguing about the ticket; that still doesn't make him a threat. And YOU watch the video; the cop never says he tasered him because he was a threat - he says he taserized him for not obeying and that is not a legally sufficient reason.

Anyway, Utah ponied up even though they said in a public statement the case was "defensible". I doubt a jury would have thought so.

I note that the motorist was only convicted of the speeding ticket; it is unclear whether he was even charged with resisting.

I watch the tape and have no sympathy for either of them. The driver was a jackass, and the cop was a trigger happy bully.

That's how most violence gets started I guess.

It's not about sympathy, it's about the law.

Well Im sure cops have to deal with a lot worse situations then that in life and should be able to deal with it without being a decieving(leading the driver out of the car under the impression of debating the sign), ego-manical thug. I guess that is why Utah Highway Patrol also sent him in for communication training.

the state has to weigh their chances. of having a defender more charismatic and on the ball than the plaintiff's. of having a sympathetic jury. etc., etc. $40K sounds like a bargain. how much would going to trial cost them even if they won?

He didn't lead the driver out of the car to debate the sign, he told him to step out of the car when he refused to sign the ticket because he was going to arrest him. Stop lying to side with the punk, it makes you look bad.
