Rear Adm Harris said he did not believe the men had killed themselves out of despair.
"They are smart. They are creative, they are committed," he said, quoted by Reuters.
"They have no regard for life, either ours or their own. I believe this was not an act of desperation, but an act of ...warfare waged against us."
Can someone explain the logic here?

Aren't we already at war? But the men at Guantanamo are NOT prisoners of war? But if they commit suicide while in prison IT IS an act of war?
Yep, makes perfect sense.
Originally posted by wibIt sounds like maybe they were trying to make a statement, or spread controversy--however, I can not think of how they would know that guantonomo is a controversial issue now in the US. Or maybe, they just decided they were never going to get out of there, and would rather die then spend the rest of their lives in a cage--It seems if they wanted to leave a message to the world, they would have at least written a letter.

Originally posted by FurorI really wish there were some understanding of their actions, but when I see the extremism of certain muslims, coupled with the secrecy of guantanamo, I'm pretty sure we'll never know the truth about anything that goes on there.

I don't believe anything either side tells me in situations like this one.

Originally posted by XanthosNZThey had dark skin so it was obviously an act of war. Only white people can innocently kill themselves when they are imprisoned without charge and no hope of release. Act of war. yup. Yeeehaaa!
