I thought you might enjoy this little example of government telling us what the hell to do. In New Jersey, when you pull up to a gas station, you are not allowed to grab that pump handle and put the gas in your car. The government makes the owner of the station hire someone to do that for you. I could throw up but you love the idea because it is government control.
So, t ...[text shortened]... a fine).
•As a result, virtually all gas stations in New Jersey operate full-service only.
And you think London has problems?

Overcharging for rent should be a crime. Americans are not serfs.

So should overcharging for any necessity that people must buy.
Rentals are a competitive market. There are apartment buildings all over the place. For you to make sense with this post, you have to tell us how a landlord can overcharge??? You suggest forcing the renter to pay!!??!?
But that ain’t happening, Suzanne. Get a grip …why write something like that when it is not going on. If my landlord raises my thousand dollar rent to $2000 I will leave. There is no issue of being overcharged is there? Of course I could pay it, which would mean I would not consider it overcharging ,or I would not complain about it. So there you have it.

PS: I would LOVE for you to start a thread on “overcharging for necessities “.
I googled what normal purchases are necessities. Housing, groceries, utilities, transportation, and basic healthcare and clothing.
Ouch. They got Healthcare in there, and we are overrun with illegals. Help me, Rhonda.
Anyway, give us your take on what would be the ideal price control 🥹🤣😡on necessities

Erm, why would freezing her rent drop her return from 11.5% to 4%.

It would just prevent her from increasing her returns further, to say 15%

Happy landlord, happy tenant.
I will forgo a business class here, income, expense, reductions in services, et. If you don't know it, i cant help. Revenues down causes strange things....but, really, not so strange.

Landlord already happy. Does the tenant have some duty owed to them by the govt? What else do you think they can get from the govt? And when they find out Trump is giving a funded savings account to children, 'certain' tenants will start having more children. Will the chldren's mommy get more and more free money. my maid may quit working!!!! dam

Am I seeing things?? You actually say on a post to a staunch anti-govt capitalist that govt might P R E V E N T them from success? Bernie: (and Marx)...'You don't need that much money!"
I do.

Couldnt say, don't study UK except to line up Heathrow, golf all around. At least you got that going. Your airpot sucks, by the way. You hardly know which way to go, and people, not uniformed, stand around answering questions from pitiful lost travelers, waving their arms. Nasty, too. Check out US airport, neat as a whistle.
All perfect. Signage absolutely perfect, you never say a word to anyone on the the entire trip.

London? We arent giong to discuss their problems, you need to ge yourself a UK forum
This isn't a US forum. You just have more problems going on than the rest of us.

School massacre one day, Illegal tariffs the next....

In case they have a gun?

Look, I humour you old chap, but let's be very clear, the UK is a much better place to live than the US. To begin with, geography itself is against you. In the UK we don't have any of those pesky hurricanes or earthquakes. (We also don't have to be mindful of venomous snakes etc). The deadliest thing in the UK is a bit of sleet and an unhappy badger.

Sure we have a knife issue with gangs, but we don't have mass shootings every other weekend and can't buy a gun in a local supermarket. And let's be frank, we don't have Trump and have a grown up understanding of free speech.

And not meaning to be unreasonably cruel, but you don't even have a history. My gran has a lightbulb in her pantry that is older than your country. That's why the average American is so enamoured with our Royal family.

God save the King.

I wish we did not have to carry guns for protection. Mine a 380

Obviously not a US forum, as it is seething with socialists. Have you ever received money from any source other than your work product?
So many questions, so little time. Do you feel good about it?
Yeah, we have no idea why we have so much discontent. I mean, WHO could it be? No one I know.

I like you too, this is all in fun, even the pompous marauder, with a grain of salt, won't be wrong about nuthin! but Zelanzi he does not like me one bit. It is an anonymous forum for gosh sakes.

OK, I dont joke about the USA. This is my answer.
Our greatest virtue is convenience and comfort. Doctor this AM, said I need cataract surgery, he has me lihed up for Friday at 8AM. I will have to just wait!!~

We have warm states, mountains, plains, (forests, real beaches, and, deserts.
We have rural suburban and massive urban choices. We choose any kind of lifestyle, climate we want, and move there.
You do not have near that variety.

Our taxes are lower, some states have NO income tax. Far lower property taxes, esp compared to South of England. Not being socialism keeps them lower??

Our economy is larger and more varied. ANY occupation or jobs. We are MUCH more entrepreneurial, easier to get rich here, there are no bounds (yet).

We have higher salary ceilings more tech opportunities, and def more room for upward mobility. Even my HR guy is amazed at our own country. No offense, but I feel that the USA has more room to move up and build wealth.

We have more space, larger homes, and lower density. Think about it. We are big after all. Bigger yards, more privacy, homes don't touch each other. We have less population density in most areas. I think that y'all pay more for smaller homes.

Then the wonderul school choice and educational variety. And thousands of university options. England system i feel is more rigid. standardized.

We have more f personal freedom and less regulation, prob my favorite. Less govt involvement in ordinary activities, more freed in career , property and lifestyle decisions. When I am there I feel it is more tightly regulated. But I hang around Yeovil.

You do have more walkable towns, for sure, lower violent crimes, (Biden and Obama, two men did this, it is not our fault) They do not jail criminals anymore , and we will never rid ourselves of Biden's cartels and illegals. You win on that one. We even are overrun with the nasty muslims now. Every night, a report on the news an immigrant runs over a child (8 yr old last night, killed her)......and every time, it is a thrice deported illegal who has snuck back in. Thannks Biden, having his daily nap. Trump tries very hard to rid us of them, but has only gotten rid of 600k of them out of maybe 10M.

Anyway, too long, but I like it here better. Skiing better in Colorado than Europe far better.

PS. We have 95,ooo miles of shoreline.

I'll stop!!

In a post above Joe you said you wished you didn't have to carry guns for protection.

That wish is granted in the UK. - Not only have I never needed a gun (knife, frying pan, sturdy umbrella) for protection, I have never even held a gun, nor been the victim of any crime, despite living the last 30 years in London. (With some of those pesky Muslim folk you worry so much about). I don't have to fear guns, worry that the next guy might be carrying one. - Don't get me wrong, all big cities around the world have a criminal underbelly, including London, and I take reasonable measures to avoid being the victim of a crime. (Not going to a cash machine when it's dark, not using my phone on a busy street etc)

On this one point alone the UK is a better place to live than the US. Throw in the history, architecture, museums and quintessential Britishness and I'm afraid you guys are, well, outgunned.

As an aside, I do like America and Americans. You just need to get your house in order.

@AverageJoe1

I accept your capitulation.
