The Taliban publish vice laws that ban women's voices and bare faces in public

SLAMABAD — Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers have issued a ban on women’s voices and bare faces in public under new laws approved by the supreme leader in efforts to combat vice and promote virtue.

The laws empower the ministry to be at the frontline of regulating personal conduct, administering punishments such as warnings or arrest if enforcers allege that Afghans have broken the laws.

Article 19 bans the playing of music, the transportation of solo female travelers, and the mixing of men and women who are not related to each other. The law also obliges passengers and drivers to perform prayers at designated times.

A woman’s voice is deemed intimate and so should not be heard singing, reciting or reading aloud in public. It is forbidden for women to look at men they are not related to by blood or marriage and vice versa.

I realize this thread will be festering with racist trash using this to attack Arabs. But it must be said: Islam is a blight on humanity.

Public criticism of Islam is much rarer than that for Christianity because of the violent culture associated with it; see Charlie Hedbo.

This is further complicated by bigots using Islam to attack a race rather than the belief system. So there's much tiptoeing around the fact that Islamic culture is abhorrent.

Yet, every moslim I’ve worked with or lived next to, has been perfectly fine and not aggressive.

I’ve explained before, you have to comprehend the 4 judicial schools of Sunni Islam, to see where the violence is coming from theologically.
And you have to take in reaction to action, to place it politically.

You don’t judge all Christians by the behaviour of the KKK or the Phalangists.
And you don’t judge all Jews by the behaviour of Netenyahoo and the settlers.

The same, ultimately, goes for moslims.

Personally, I find anyone who takes ancient texts literally, quite a pain in the arse.
No matter which religion they are.

They'd have to kill me.

I wouldn't do well in a "Handmaid's Tale" type of society, either.

They'd have to either execute me publicly as an example or I'd be in the underground, getting people out.

All I wanna know is:

How did the Taliban get their hands on Project 2025?

Are you kidding Vivify?

The alt-right wants these same restrictions on women and I'm sure they're watching to learn how the Taliban gets away with it.

Hear me when I say that the evangelical alt-right has a LOT in common with the Taliban.

Is your conclusion that Islam is a blight on humanity, based on this one aspect of Islam that women are not allowed to speak in public? Therefore you also conclude, that bigots use Islam to attack a race.

I suspect it is you who lack understanding or maybe you are only now discovering what Islam is about. The people you call bigots have been there decades ago and have a list of 50 aspects of Islam that are destructive should be alien to humanity.

Rubbish. Casual interactions with people have no bearing on what Taliban and other extremist Muslim groups are doing all over the world. Try to ignore your personal interactions with them because they are irrelevant.

I personally do not know any bad muslims, and I live among them. They are all nice people. But that has nothing to do with what is going in in other parts of the world, where they are killing and starving and abusing non-muslims who refuse their religion.

Are you so stupid that you cannot see that? Im sure you are not. What you are is a supporter of Islam because anytime someone condemns Islam and all smart peolpe should, you jump in to defend. Get a grip.

Notice I said "Islam", not "Muslims".

The religion is the problem. Not the people who practice it.

Wrong. If a man [Christian, Muslim or any other], goes around killing and abusing people because he is told to do so by any religion, any authority or any other body, then that man is the problem. That man does not get a free pass because he is obeying orders or instructions. Every man has a conscience that is a guide to what is right from wrong. There is no excuse and no passing the buck.

Religious cultures drive extremism. This fact doesn't give terrorists a "pass", it sheds light on what helped foster their actions.

Agreed. But this thread was not meant to promote one religion over another.

It is up to the individual to keep the extremism in check.
