That was the whole point of Sasquatch's post.

Funny how few people have responded, agreeing or disagreeing. That seems to tie in with the whole problem of political apathy in the US.

If the poster had made statements like: "Abortion is wrong", or "Christians are evil", or perhaps "I hate liberals", folks would be trying to rip ol sasquatch to pieces by now.

Interesting...

Liberal Christians are evil and I hate them. Even though it is wrong, they should all have been aborted.

That's sorted, now we'll have answers to Sasquatch's high-quality post.

I think the reason for the lack of response is that many of the people here can't relate to American domestic political issues.

There is a school of thought that states that the reason the UK has never been politically extreme in modern times is because the majority of the people really couldn't care less about the political process.

I'm proud to belong to such a country :-)

Are we there right now, in a revolutionary mood? No. I don't think so. But the time is coming, I suspect, when ordinary people - the vast swath of the country that calls itself moderate, and subscribes to neither party's ideology, are going to get mad as hell. And demand change. Demand good governance and accountability. I can see a grassroots c ...[text shortened]... from fanatical speical interests and put it back where it belongs - in the hands of the people.
Hoping you're right, and wondering what you imagine will finally spur such a movement. We are a strangely submissive people, allowing our cisterns to be soiled and rewarding those who do it (to borrow an analogy straight from Wendell Berry).

I joined the Marine Corps at the beginning of my senior year in high school. unfortunatley we don't get to choose what our tax dollars are spent on. Maybe that is the price to live here, but if you hate it you can always move somewhere else. Here you are free to do that.

as far as some of your points go you can complain all day long about the misgivings of corporations who are all about making money, the ones that break the law should be punished, i agree.

as far as the tax cut goes everybody recieved a tax cut, tax cut for the rich is just far left propaganda. I am lower middle class and I recieved a big tax cut. The tax cut you grip about lead us out of a recession incured by 9/11, if not for that tax cut we would be in a huge recession.

Gets my rec, SQ. This country has plenty of rope and plenty of trees. It's time to clean out our political house and start over with office holders who will have a vivid memory of what happens to those who abuse the public trust.

Agreed. Though perhaps a simpler and less gruesome plan, not that I disagree with your "hanging" plan Delmer 🙂 , but maybe we could start by simply not voting for the incumbent at any level of government.

Political affiliation be damned. I say step one for the next election, no matter where you live or which party you vote for, is to vote for anyone other than the incumbent. Here in the US we can easily set our own term limits for every single politician. Just vote the current resident of every political office back out onto the street.

It's simple to do, it's easy to explain, and it involves going to the polls and voting. Something most of us were going to do anyway.

It would only take one occurence of this for the politicians to get the message. I'd love to see, over the next two election cycles, at least a 50% turnover in the Senate and House. And no president gets more than one 4 year term, no Senator more than 6 years, and no Congressman more than 2.

How are you gonna vote them out when the next one is just as crooked as the one you kicked out of office? Only a rich man can run in an election now. If he is a broke assed working stiff like me then could he run?

You could run, but the problem is your votes would probably be in the double digits nationwide. I might vote for you, but the vast majority of the country just vote for who's advertising they see more of.

I could mortgage my house, sell my semi, use all my savings in the bank and that would get .000001 second of air time. Like Hank Williams said in the song "Mister Lincoln we could sure use you now".
