How are you gonna vote them out when the next one is just as crooked as the one you kicked out of office? Only a rich man can run in an election now. If he is a broke assed working stiff like me then could he run?
If the next batch of politicians we vote in are just as crooked as the first, we at least got rid of the first. There are Senators and Congressmen in our country who get elected and stay in office for 40 years or more. That's outrageous! You and I can't get that kind of job security, so why should they?!
Our best and our brightest do not become politicians. That's a fact. The everyday working man and woman finds it too difficult and expensive to run for office. So who does that leave us with? The wealthy, the connected, the Yale and Harvard boys that shake the right hands and kiss the right asses.
We have to fight with whatever weapons have, and right now our most powerful weapon is our one vote. If we can boot out the incumbents we can send a message, democrat or republican, we're not gonna put up with the sorry state of management in our government any longer. And should we vote in a second bunch of crooks then we will simply vote them back out. Eventually the state of the nation, instead of the self interests of our politicians, will take precedence in this country.
We may just end up with a few decent politicians that want to keep their jobs and will bring about legislation that benefits ALL Americans.
And if that doesn't work we'll try Delmer's plan. 🙂

Originally posted by WajomaI will second that post. However, what I think is good for all Americans, and what others think is good for all Americans are two differnt things. I think minimal government (not anarchy) is great and best allows the meritorious to succeed (make money, aquire influence etc.). I also think that no berocracy (sorry it's not spelled correctly) can effectivly compete with a private business. I believe you need to vote before complaining about the state of things, I believe that you are not entitled to be lazy, own a tv, watch porn, play an x-box or drive around playing music so loud that I feel my innards vibrating.
Anyone complaining about government on this thread should check out these guys. An established organisation fighting for your right to soveriegnty over your own life.

In general, I agree with the OP that a. Americans don't care enough and b. Politicians are culpable but won't ever feel the heat.
As far as the libertarians go, I attempted to register as one, and was told I couldn't (in Iowa). They are organized, but not very large or wielding much influence yet. I do believe that a 3rd party will solve many of our problems as it will help lock down congresses ability to do anything (leaving us alone to live our lives).
Originally posted by zebanoI always wanted to start a political party. My plan was to call it the "Gridlock Party". The goal was to make sure government accomplishes almost nothing.

Don't take away my porn. Anything but that. And the whole point of the Libertarian Party is that you're allowed to be lazy if you want to - you're allowed to be almost anything you want.
Hear anything about that?

This is going to be a little more raw than it should be. I apologize for that.
I joined the Marine Corps at the beginning of my senior year in high school. I left for boot camp six weeks after I graduated high school, and spent eleven of the next thirteen years of my life splitting my time between active and reserve duty, pledged "to defend my ...[text shortened]... gh and will demand that the government be returned to them. I for one can't wait for that day.
As a matter of interest, when do you think this changed? Have the actions of the government changed since you signed up, or is it just that you aren't as naive now as you may have been then?
There were people around the time of the Vietnam War protesting like you are in your post. What was your opinion of them at the time, and what is your opinion of them now?
Do you also not think that there is zero chance of the people being able to rise up against the government since the introduction of the patriot act. Anti government revolutions need anti government revolutionaries. These people will be locked up asap, as your oligarchy can't afford to allow the proactive few to incite the masses to revolution.
My thoughts on a very interesting post.
