It seems that the American Freedom society (as strange to me as "US intelligence", but that's besides the point) is giving an award to Geert Wilders this March.
Seemingly they give these awards to individuals and groups who have fought with courage and conviction for freedom in the world.

Now, that does sound like a good idea.
However... Geert Wilders?

Remember Geert?

If he somewhat reminds you of a fascist pig, that's just coincidence.

Geert, lovely dovely, friend of freedom Geert (who's political party is called... the party for freedom...) has made the following remarks:
- "Islam is a violent religion."
- "The Koran should be forbidden."
- "At least half the Koran should be burned."
- "An Islamic tsunuami is going to flood the Netherlands."
- "Marroccan street terrorists can't be distinguished from their faiths."
- Imams should only preach in Dutch."
- etc. ad infinitum.

Now, I know there's a few out there who think: "Yeah. So what. He's right."
Then, just as a social experiment, exchange "Islam" for "Judaism" and Koran for Thora in those statements.

And besides these sorts of statements, he's also called for the government to use live ammunition when shooting at demonstrators (demonstrating, incidentally, is a basic right in an international treaty the Dutch government has signed up to).

So, what is this American Freedom Alliance?
http://www.americanfreedomalliance.org/

This is from their mission statement:
The American Freedom Alliance’s mission is to promote the free exchange of ideas, freedom of inquiry and freedom of conscience among the practitioners of the world’s religions. It seeks to build alliances between such communities and people of faith in order to protect and defend common values, principles and ideals.

And:
The American Freedom Alliance aims to build a national alliance of people of faith and which involves writers, academics and thinkers from around the world , who will join together through seminars, conferences, publications and activist networks, to promote and protect moral values, democracy and freedom.

Oh, and:
explore the means by which peoples of faith around the world can protect their ethical principles and moral values against the scourge of anti-Semitism, anti-Zionism,

And isn't it a coincidence that our friend, lover of all people, Geert has close connections to the Israeli embassy in the Hague?
It seems, to me, that the AFA isn't so much about freedom of religion, speech and demonstration, but rather more about promoting islamophobia.

Anyone know any winners of this prestigious award? I can't find it.

Not that I'm going to defend what seems like obvious bias, but if Jews keep getting killed by Islamists (like in Mumbai), death will continue to put a crimp in the liberty of Jews. (Hinjoos?)

Now how about we flip this statement to read:

Not that I'm going to defend what seems like obvious bias, but if Arabs keep getting killed by Jews (like in Palestine), death will continue to put a crimp in the liberty of Arabs.

The point is that old saw we've heard since 9/11: all Muslims aren't terrorists, but all the terrorists who attacked us on 9/11 ARE MUZZES. That fact simply can't just be swept under the rug. I never hear on the evening news ..."a Jewish suicide bomber detonated her satchel in a crowded street in Haifa today, killing 45 and injuring 112..." or "...a Christian militant group claimed responsibility today for the kidnapping and beheading of an Al-Jazeera photographer..."
It just don't happen.

"A Christian militant claimed responsibility for the bombing of an abortion clinic."

"Jewish militants are believed to be responsible for the pipe bomb attack on Zeev Sternhell."

For example.

However, one could argue that Israeli security forces make Jewish terrorism unnecessary. Why blow one's self up, when you're army are doing a good enough job as it is?

Okay---it happens...once in a blue phuckin' moon. Comparison the acts of violence perpetrated by Christians and Jews today versus those perpetrated by modern Muslims shows the real difference in "levels of civilization".

What can we glean about "levels of civilization" from the deployment of cluster bombs, uranium tipped ammunition, landmines, weapons in space, mining harbours, training and equipping death squads, and bombing resdiential apartment blocks, urban water supply infrastructure and TV studios?

That technological sophistication is frequently mistaken for civilisation.

Yeah reminds me of a show I saw about African cloth weaving, it gushed about how civilized they were because they made coarse wrap-around clothes and what a big deal it was that they could do something.

How do you define civilization? What are the criteria for civilization rankings?

I could if I wanted. You probably could too, so it can't be that hard can it?

Ah yes, and wouldn't that then make something like industrialized slaughter seem to some like a kind of 'pinnacle of civilization'?
