As America faces an economic downturn not seen since the great depression of the 1930's, states are slowly opening again, hoping to minimize the massive unemployment and economic hardship that has gripped the country. Look for 2 things to happen this summer:

1. The economic numbers, that have been horrible of late, will begin to improve modestly, as some people go back to work. A modest improvement above horrible however is still pretty poor.

2. Donald Trump, and by extension his followers will seize upon this modest improvement in economic numbers as living proof that "happy days are here again!" start icing the champagne and dancing in the streets, celebrating Donald Trump's dazzling brilliance in bravely leading America through this over hyped virus.

Lost in all the dancing however will be the fact that well over 100,000 Americans will have lost their lives, most of whom need not have, had Trump taken this virus seriously late last year and bothered to prepare for it. An addition, an economy modestly better than the great depression is still very bad, and (as usual) the brunt of the economic pain will be felt by the poor.

Nevertheless. The dancing will begin soon -

So what your saying is: The stock market will be returning to its ALL TIME high once again, and America has only suffered a 1% Excess Death above PRE COVID projections over the period of March to June?

And thank you, mchill, for your well timed weekly "HATE TRUMP" thread. I was looking so forward to it. What is it this time...? How dare people hope and celebrate!? This will make Trump look good! Ugh.

You really want a lot more death and longer lasting lockdowns, don't you.
Your Trump Derangement Syndrome has rendered you a moot point.

https://news.gallup.com/poll/197231/trump-clinton-finish-historically-poor-images.aspx

This Gallup poll shows Trump was at 61 percent disapproval when he was elected; the worst in polling for a president in U.S. history. The fact that Trump was still elected shows the power of right-wing media like Fox News, tirelessly working to spin any and every negative thing about Trump into either a positive or dismiss it as leftist lunacy. Trump's hold on Republicans is even stronger now than when he was elected.

I hope this guy gets ousted, but we can't be so sure. The right-wing propaganda machine is an effective one; just look at how they got the Affordable Care Act to be called "Obamacare".

Yeah sounds like a storm in a tea cup but if you look at ‘Statista.com’ they’ve got a figure of 1:8 2020 deaths in the USA being subscribed to corona virus.
I suppose there are ‘lies and then dammed lies and then statistics’
When this is all over and they figure out what the covid death rate would’ve been without the lockdown we can have an informed grown up discussion on the necessity for the lockdown or otherwise.

The economic downturn was due to bad advice that most leftists believe was true.

No dancing for the small business owners who lost their businesses.

No dancing for the small business owners who lost their businesses because major large corporations stole the stimulus funds meant for them.

There, I fixed it for you.

Go cry more crocodile tears.

The major companies could only get the money due to the lockdown.

Happy days are indeed around the corner. Far be it from me saying what i think in an overweighted lib forum, but after your lamenting about good, bad and indifferent, (your hate, your dont hate, Trump actions, Biden’s dementia, the works....) put your eyes on the sparrow, get on the Trump train. Make a great life for your families.

Good post, BTW, Earl of Trumps. Who are these whiners?

Maybe we can have a thread later when Biden figures a way to get away from having to debate Trump on stage. And also how he will be able to avoid actually, being in public and talking with groups of people

The hardship is unnecessary, why are rents being collected during a lock down?

As in the film 'They shoot horses don't they?'

Susannah York really should have won an Oscar in that one. And Gig Young did.

Well, that's just taking one person's misery and handing it over to someone else to eat.

Landlords have to pay mortgages and property taxes themselves. They also have to make sure there is adequate heat and hot water and electricity.

That all costs money.
