They follow it because it rationalises their wealth and explains to them why they are in the privileged positions that they occupy.
Not unlike the Abrahamic or in fact any religion, Hinduism is the religious rationale for Indian caste system.
They are all scams played upon the weak by the powerful 🤷🏻♂️
The religion itself is not a scam, but some of the people within it, and yes, any religion, are driven by less than altruistic reasons, that's for sure.
