@Mott-The-Hoople saidNo. You don't tax your way to prosperity, you tax so that you can provide basic services like education, healthcare and policing. By not taxing enough so that the basics are not covered you end up with people living compromised lives, incurring huge debt just to stay alive. In terms of top, first world, OECD countries, the US is the only one with this ugly record of not looking after it's own as a right, and it's kept that way because of people like you who selfishly believe that's the only way.
what is unbelievable is your thinking you can tax your way to prosperity
your scenario fits blacks and democrats
@kmax87 saidwhich OECD country has the highest poverty rate?

@Mott-The-Hoople said46% percent of all employees work for small businesses, making them the largest provider of jobs. 14% of employed people work for the government, and 9% work for non profit organizations.
so you come up with a very small percentage and think you have a point?
Combined, 70 percent of all jobs come from that "small percentage", compared to 23% percent coming from large businesses.
If you count self-employed people (10% ), that's a whopping 80 percent of all jobs coming from places other than Big Business (some self-employed people also work other jobs so there's some overlap with other types of employment).

@shavixmir saidThe thing we found out was no matter how much money comes in they can spend it faster.
The trickle down effect has been known not to work since the 60’s.
Why they keep repeating it is beyond me, why so many people still believe it, just boggles the mind.
@Mott-The-Hoople saidOut of 38 OECD countries the USA with a poverty rate of slightly over 17% scores 2nd last just ahead of Costa Rica at 20%. Who knew the wealthiest country in this world embraced this level of inequality.
which OECD country has the highest poverty rate?
@Mott-The-Hoople saidWhy is it that you would rather deflect than answer the question??

@vivify saidI said nothing about morality. The most common reason for poverty all over the world is the list i posted. These affect hundreds of millions of people. And here to counteract that you post about Trump and Musk [something you have done before], as if that disproves a general rule. In the majority of cases, poverty is not the fault of the government, but falls squarely on people who do not have the ability to rise out of it.
You've just described people like Elon Musk, who has 12 children by 3 women, or Trump who has 5 children by 3 women, and is recorded as having cheated on every one of them.
Rich people are not more moral by any means; often it's the opposite. Even Jesus said it's nearly impossible for the rich to get into heaven with his "eye of the needle" comment. All the social problems you mention are also found among the rich, both before and after obtaining wealth.
@vivify saidYou might want to consider what happens to a million dollars given to a man who has everything. The money goes into financial institutions, creates greater liquidity which in turn makes it easier for people to get loans for small business etc, and other trickle down effects.
This thread is specifically about trick-down economics. That's the belief that giving rich people higher tax breaks results in a better economy.
Having better principles or moralistic stances can lead to a better life. But giving rich people freebies never helps the economy.
I think the problem is that many people want to see cash in peoples hand from the government. That is the one that rarely helps the economy.

@shavixmir saidAfter now having read the answers in this topic, bogus and otherwise, do you see now why people believe it?

People, especially on the right, tend to believe people they deem as "experts". The problem is, this usually includes themselves.
@Rajk999 saidOr that money could go towards a new yacht, a private plane, a lavish trip, etc.

It is only an assumption that rich people will use free money to benefit the economy. This assumption has been proven false far more than the other way around.
@vivify saidI am not saying the govt should actually give business people cash to spend anyhow they choose. These are govt funds given for expansion, development of new businesses, so that employment and production can increase in specific industries or depressed areas. How funds are dispersed and spent is managed carefully.

Are you saying that in the US the govt actually gave people money who spent it on these luxuries you mentioned?
