I am on record over and over in 2021 and 2022 warning that the judgment of history is coming for the covid alarmists.

Well now,

1. The House Committee report released today supports the likelihood of the lab leak theory (for which you were a racist if you stated such in the early days)

2. The Committee report concludes that mask mandates and the 6-foot rules were useless.

3. The report concludes lockdowns caused “more harm than good” to the economy, overall health of Americans and development of children.

4. Jay Battacharya, key author of the Great Barrington Declaration, who was shadowbanned by Twitter at the NIH's (and other government entities) instigation, will now be the director of the NIH.

5. Marty Makary, who was equally skeptical of mandates and lockdowns, will now head the FDA.

Almost everyone (maybe 80-90% in my estimate) now thinks that the covid restrictions, especially after the vaccines were widely available, were overdone and I am all but sure that people punished Democrats at the ballot box for chasing covid policy at the expense of other issues.

Just to cite one example - those free covid tests that they kept sending round after round of (as recently as a couple of months ago). The reaction almost everyone seems to have had to those are "I don't need more damned covid tests. Rather, why don't you take that $60 (or whatever it cost the government to send these) and help me pay by grocery bill, which is 70% higher than is was in 2019?" those tests are a laughingstock, and are emblematic of covid policy which ignore inflationary effects of these stimulus packages which were only made necessary by artificial and mostly useless restrictions on public life (again, especially beyond early 2021).

Pandemics make a mess out of everything, no matter who's in charge. Let's hope we don't have another one anytime soon.

Public Officials During The Next Pandemic: "Stopping the spread of disease is simply not popular with voters, so in lieu of taking any action, here is a list of nutritional supplements that many Americans could benefit from. Also, wash your hands, lose weight, stop smoking, and drink plenty of water. Happy Holidays!" 😆

I saw that today, and my immediate thought was @sonhouse called Trump a murderer for how he
handled the whole COVID affair. Now we can see, he was much closer to correct than the -ology od the moment.

Let's look at Page 300:

Finding: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Other Public Health Officials Falsely Implied that Ivermectin Was Only for Horses and Cows.

Throughout the pandemic, in the face of a deadly disease for which there were minimal treatments available, many doctors explored the use of drugs which were already approved for other indications.1154 This practice is called “off-label use” and is commonplace in the medical profession. This situation yielded one of the most egregious examples of the Biden Administration’s purveyance of misinformation—the FDA’s infamous statement which implied that Ivermectin was a veterinary drug for horses and cows and not for humans.1155 Specifically, the FDA tweeted on August 21, 2021, from its official Twitter (now X) account, “You are not a horse. You are not a cow. Seriously, y’all. Stop it.”1156 Which seemingly conflated the off-label prescription of Ivermectin as being the same as humans intentionally taking the veterinary version of the drug without a doctor.

Ivermectin is FDA approved to treat certain parasites in human and any implication that it is only for “horses” or “cows” is plainly false.

I don't know why someone emphasized the veterinary use. I assume they wanted to protect people from making a 'stupid decision' (below).

I worked at Merck in the early 1990's when ivermectin was being donated charitably to nations in Africa, Latin America, Eastern Mediterranean, Asia, and South Pacific to treat 'river blindness' and 'elephantiasis' but: "Today, ivermectin is being increasingly used worldwide to combat other diseases in humans, such as Strongyloidiasis (which infects some 35 million each year), scabies (which causes 300 million cases annually), Pediculosis, Gnathostomiasis and Myiasis—and new and promising properties and uses for ivermectin and other avermectin derivatives are continuing to be found. These include activity against another neglected tropical disease, Leishmaniasis."

https://www.merck.com/stories/mectizan/
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3043740/

"Ivermectin, while paralyzing body-wall and pharyngeal muscle in nematodes has no such impact in mammals, as it cannot cross the blood-brain barrier into the mammalian Central Nervous System, where GABA receptors are located."

So Ivermectin kills worms. Nematodes. And it is safe for mammals to take.

STUPID DECISION: "I WILL TAKE IVERMECTIN FOR COVID!"

COVID is caused by a virus. Ivermectin affects worms. Not mammals. Not viruses because viruses don't have a nematode nervous system (Surprise! Not.)

The judgement of MAGA Republicans you mean.

Yes, you are on record for being a COVID minimizer and supporting reckless policies like those pursued by DeSantis and Noem which led to tens of thousands (at least) of needless deaths.

Sorry @sh76.

I've read as much of this as I can stand. It's political grandstanding.

These guys are not epidemiologists.

As for a "lab leak" - I have no idea. COVID killed 1 million Americans before their time. I don't give a scat where it came from, and it doesn't matter at all.

But we are less prepared now for the next pandemic in 1 year, 10 years, or 20 years due to all this "resistance" to public health measures. People are going to fuuk up. Next virus may not be so 'nice' (not that this one was 'nice.' )

COVID killed more people over a MUCH shorter time than HIV.

Your last paragraph is utter BS. There was a worldwide jump in inflation following COVID in virtually all advanced economies no matter the particulars of governmental response.:

" Between the third quarters of 2020 and 2022, median global inflation soared from 1.9 percent to 8.7 percent."

The "judgment of history" lasts longer than one election cycle (though your theory doesn't explain why someone like Kathy Whitmer won re-election by a double digit margin in a swing State in 2022).

I'm sure German government officials in 1936 were crowing about the "judgment of history" vindicating their scrapping of treaty restrictions, building up of the military, getting rid of pesky democratic features, etc. etc. etc.

Probably the "judgment of history" looked a little different 10 years later.

"lose weight, stop smoking, and drink plenty of water" is a heck of a lot better advice to avoid serious illness from flu-like viruses than "stay in your house, stop going to work and school, stop socializing, wear a cloth mask (nose covering optional), stay 6 feet away from each other outdoors, fill the skateparks with concrete, shut down hiking trails and walk in one direction at the supermarket."

I recall you saying in March 2020 that this wasn't going to be any worse than a bad flu outbreak with maybe 30,000 or so deaths.

How does history judge those comments?

I don't recall saying that.

I do recall the University of Washington model predicting 60,000 deaths in the first wave. Maybe I was citing that?

Unfortunately, I now find it impossible to research posts in the past here because I get a never-ending scroll rather than separate pages after 25 threads or so. But if you want to insist your level of COVID minimization was merely 60,000 deaths or so, the question still stands.

World list of covid deaths. US tops the list at 1.2 million.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#google_vignette

China must be playing games, 1.4 billion, 5200 deaths,
Right above it on the list, Libya, 7 million, 6400 deaths.
This report about Chinese deaths looks more like it.

https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/29/10/23-0585_article

more than 1 million deaths. A bit of Chinese suppression going on it looks like.
