You do not have a Frikandel in your refrigerator, nor can you walk down the street and get one. You can walk down any street in the Netherlands and get a hamburger.
I once again rest my case
Yeah that's true, you do export your obesity.

Uhuh!

Threatening violence towards a racist, who actively supports the murder of civilians based on ethnicity or religion.

Oh, sorry, I mean mass murder.

How do you reckon the defence is going to sound?
Do you really expect the Dutch authorities to take such a threat seriously?

Oh, some “maybe” Dutch citizen from Glasgow, dares a racist cvnt to come to the Netherlands for an arse wooping… when everyone knows that said racist slime ball couldn’t find the Netherlands even if he was being arse banged in fvcking Amsterdam.

Moron.

I said profane word once, even misspelled, still deleted!! OK tho, I am against profanity. I think Shav gets a pass for color, SHouse gets to predict and rant and do full pages, reposting all the time, and Sue gets to entertane-with-the_inane.
Other than that, normal debate should be the rule.
Please!!!

The Dutch have contributed to major advances in technology since before America was a nation, and continue to do so. A partial list follows:

First modern world atlas

Mercator Projection

Triangulation in map-making and cartography

First printed nautical charts

First charting of southern hemisphere constellations

Compact cassette tapes

CDs

Bluetooth

Educate yourself.
Too bad the Dutch couldn't be more inventive when it came to their flag (instead of just rotating the French flag).

But thank you for posting that list. Interesting to learn that some of the electronic inventions were Dutch rather than Japanese.

I never really had a reason to despise the Dutch before I stepped into the RHP forums, but that list might help to soften my relatively recent despite.

One might also mention Max Euwe, the man who defeated Alekhine for the World's Chess Championship.

As for what posts get deleted for profanity, I think it has to do with whether they get reported.

I have a strong sense that despite the "rules as written" there is some kind of unwritten community consent that Debates is allowed to be more of a trash-talking mosh pit, possibly so as to keep such behavior out of the other forums.

I think it would be unlikely to happen, but for there to be normal debates I think there would have to be a more formal debate forum with stricter rules, such as the OP has to be a brief and well-defined proposition, and no personal attacks or remarks allowed in any thread.

Silly goose….. have you not ever maybe watched the football game where color is part of the analyzing …. that past quarterback sure did add a lot of color to our observations….that goes on between the sports announcers?
No, it was not about what color you are. No one cares what color we all are. Except maybe one person we hear from a lot.

So, here we go……
color commentator or expert commentator is a sports commentator who assists the main (play-by-play) commentator, typically by filling in when play is not in progress. The person may also be referred to as a summarizer (outside North America) or analyst (a term used throughout the English-speaking world).[1] The color analyst and main commentator will often exchange comments freely throughout the broadcast, when the main commentator is not describing the action.[2] The color commentator provides expert analysis and background information, such as statistics, strategy, and injury reports on the teams and athletes, and occasionally anecdotes or light humor. Color commentators are often former athletes, coaches, or experts of the sport being broadcast.[3]

Thank you for our daily bop.

And let's not forget Antonie Philips van Leeuwenhoek. the Father of Microbiology, who made his own microscopes. The Wikipedia link also had something to say about telescopes and magic lanterns. Some kind of "I want to see" theme going on there.

Thank you for the reminder about Python. In my own vague memory-storage system, I must have filed Guido van Rossum with the Italians. What a nice change from Perl, with its windblown fences of escaped virgules.

[I am finally looking at the Wiki link you provided, and might mention a few more of interest to me.]

So many items in the art category, but the invention of glazing stands out to me technically, as does the "tronie" type of painting where the fleeting expression of a non-famous person is really the subject of the painting.

As for Blender3D, somehow I learned of that early on, and bought maybe the first spiral-bound manual, as well as a Blender T-shirt back in the day. Although I have only dabbled with it a little myself, I have followed its progress over time. It started off as rather remarkable, and has become even more so.

Well, I'll stop there. I'm sure that people with any sincere interest can scroll through the list (which I will re-link) themselves.

Well, to keep this more on-topic and to be considerate of the general tenor of this forum, it is somewhat disappointing that a certain small number of our contemporary Dutch fellows are little more than chronic bilge-spewers. πŸ˜‰

I merely wanted to demonstrate, yet again, to all concerned how ignorant Joe is of the accomplishments of the rest of humanity beyond his very parochial perspective--not that he is likely to learn anything thereby. He probably thinks that Americans invented the automobile (it was Carl Benz) and had the first man in orbit (it was Yuri Gagarin).

My problem with AvgJoe is that we really don't know where he's from.

However, if he's being run by (let's say) the Pink Dragon Mountain team from Beijing, then of course one could admire their surveillance, consistency in presentation, and command of vernacular American English.

If AvgJoe is really American and living somewhere in the interior of the USA, then maybe something he and I might agree on is just the logistical reality that the coastal areas of our large country are both more profitable and more cosmopolitan than some regions in the interior. I don't know the answer to that discrepancy or divide, but I'm not running for President either, nor am I an economic vampire slurping the profit off the economy at any level.
