It seems such an impossible amount. I am having a really hard time finding any solid information that I can understand about what really is this "debt."

The funny thing to notice is that if you scroll down to the Bar Graph you'll see the exponential growth of the Debt since the 80's when the Republicans are in power and the slowing down of the debt when the Democrats are in power.....yet amazingly people believe the myth that the Republicans are the ones that are good with the money...ha, what a joke.

By disbanding the gold standard and instead adopting oil traded in US dollars as its MO the US by tying exchange rates to its deregulated currency exacts a tribute in that it will end up paying less for what she has borrowed because of inflation and other fiscal measures that end up devaluing its fiat currency.

Originally posted by lauseyAs soon as the democrats get back in power I bet we will start doing so. During Clinton's time we had a budget surplus. We'd probably still have one now if not for the war in Iraq.

that of his father and his immediate predecessor. A cursory review of the economic policies of
the past 30 years of presidency (of which 12 were Democrat and 18 were Republican) clearly
demonstrates that the idea that federal Republicans are the 'fiscally responsible' party is a thing
of the past. The government has never been bigger than it is right now, all thanks to
GWB.
