@earl-of-trumps saidWhich party, though? There isn't currently a left - wing party in America. I don't think any 'advanced' western society can be allowed to swing too far in either political direction, either way brings trouble, as we are now witnessing with imminent and hopefully peaceful departure of Mister Trump. Words like 'Marxist' are being banded about nowadays to describe anyone who espouses any view which is slightly left of centre, and the US will never have a Marxist government, any more than fascism will be allowed to raise its' ugly head. Despite all of the rhetoric and insults being thrown around at the moment, the vast majority of sensible Americans understand that the centre ground is the only place to be. This in any case from an outside perspective is my wishful thinking....
@lemon-lime
I've been saying for the longest time that the neo leftists are totalitarian in nature.
And I am afraid that a one party system is what they want
When they get it, the blood letting starts
@kevcvs57 saidSo I guessed right... you don't see the irony.
People are at liberty to burn any books they want as long as they’ve paid for them. They are also at liberty to encourage like minded people to do the same.
I believe they were encouraged to ‘steal the books’ and burn them and that is clearly wrong.
Other than that all you have is two people drawing criticism for their opinions which is the essence of free speech.
As I sa ...[text shortened]... government starts burning books and smashing windows. But relax that would be 2025 at the earliest.
"Stopping the circulation of this book and these ideas is 100% a hill I will die on,” tweeted Chase Strangio, the ACLU’s deputy director for transgender justice.It's a hill he's willing to die on, but not a hill he's willing to face criticism or the possibility of losing his job.
( snowflake logic )
It’s not until a government burns or bans a book that freedom of expression is being curtailed.In other words, it's not a problem until there's nothing you can do about it. The logic employed here is 'why nip it in the bud when you can wait until it (literally) becomes a hill to die on.'
For now the issue is not about "burning books". It's about efforts to suppress freedom of expression in order to advance an agenda. And if left unchecked long enough it could become a much more serious issue. For now I'm not worried about thought police showing up at my door. But history has proven what can happen when tyrants are allowed to cancel the rights of ordinary people... not just public figures, but anyone.
