I would like everybody who has complaints, remarks, suggestions and or proposals about the existing debates forum situation to post them here. The discussion about the situation in the debates forum is so fragmented it is almost impossible to detect all the threads that in some way relate to the issue.
For starters I would like to propose to the admins to seriously consider to reduce the irritation caused by religious threads in a constructive and acceptable way for all parties involved.
One possibility to look at is the repeated proposal done by many debaters to create a seperate "Religion debates" forum. Another way would be to create a "Religion and Philosophy" debates forum, yet another could be to create two new forums, one called "Religion debates" and another called "Politics debate" and to rename the existing debates forum to "General Debates" forum. I don't know however whether these proposals are technically possible or even desirable from the admins's point of view.
The existing situation is causing too much strife and rivalry. The problem needs to be adressed seriously and constructively as soon as possible.

Hi All,
I've sent a pm to Russ asking that Religion has its own forum. With all due respect to each one's own religious (or non-religious) endeavors, I am quite tired of being bombarded by propaganda. It's not even debate anymore.
I'm not implying anyone should be silenced or censored for their beliefs. At the same time, however, there should be a place where those who share common beliefs can converse and those who do not can peacefully co-exist.
I have asked Russ to create a vote for it but I understand he may not. I suppose its easy enough to avoid in any forum the debates covering these subjects but I think there are so many of them now clogging the Debates forum that I don't think its fair anyone should have to do that.
Does anybody else feel the same?

"One possibility to look at is the repeated proposal done by many debaters to create a seperate "Religion debates" forum."
... many debaters.
Originally posted by ivanhoeThe problem that has exploded in the last few weeks is not that there are so many religious threads, but that a small group of people insisted on barging into unrelated threads and preaching their religious beliefs, rather than debating the issues in the thread. I do not see how a seperate Religion Forum would help; these people either crave attention and/or feel it's a religious duty to prosleytize (probably more of the former) and will not respect the bounds of a forum anymore than they respect the bound of a thread. Short of aggressive moderation and/or outright banning (neither of which I favor) I don't see how this problem can be addressed by the admins.

It's funny that while they were doing their unwelcome preaching in unrelated threads, it was not considered a problem by Ivanhoe and others. Now, however, when some of us, exasperated by the constant preaching and belittling of us because we do not share these fanatics' views have decided to aggressively confront them (but within the boundaries of religious debate), there's too much "strife" in the Debate Forum. I say-heat-can't-stand-kitchen-out; these boys triggered a war between the Holier-than-Thous and the rest of us; it's a little late for them to be crying for protection when they were the ones consistently disrupting the purpose of this Forum; to debate, not preach.
There should definitely be a seperate religious thread, with all mention of non-related religion heavily moderated.
The debates forum is of absolutely no interest to me whatsoever anymore since we got invaded by a bunch of bible bashing fundamentalists, who constantly tell everybody how wrong they are because we don't agree with their self deluded interpretation of a fictional book, the original of which doesn't even exist.
I'm ashamed to say I've been hanging out in the General forum, for want of something better to do.

You must have missed the posts wherein I adressed the issue. Please lets not turn this thread into something that does not correspond with my intentions when opening it.

I am perpetually at a loss why people feel that they cannot do

Me too, Nemesio. Of course, the Debate Forum is compelling, sort of like watching a melding of the Groundhog Day movie with an intellectual Demolition Derby.
I also want to adress the issue of people posting in threads interrupting and polluting serious discussions with all kinds of clearly off-topic remarks.
If one has to go through serious threads containing a lot of trash posts, clearly off-topic remarks or stand-up comedian comments you soon lose interest.
These polluting off-topic posts should be removed immediately by the mods.
