How many people out there honestly believe that mainstream American media has a liberal bias?

OK - if there is a story containing anything critical of bush or America, do you dismiss it out of hand as 'liberal/anti-American garbage', or read it with an open mind to see whether or not there might be some truth to the story?
Personally, I feel that a lot of American media no longer reports in the old sense of the word (ie research, corroborate, double check, fact vs opinion etc). They usually regurgitate talking points in a heavily partisan setting - overwhelmingly slanted to the right.

There is nothing fair and balanced about the Fox News organisation. It is a slogan that is as much a radical right wing lie as I have ever heard. It is a poke in the eye of reality. It is as fair and Balanced as sending your crosseyed Grandma out to use boxing gloves in a gunfight.ðŸ˜
Originally posted by mochironNo it is not from an American point of view. Please do not misunderstand this and lump all Americans having the same belief. Before the Fox news organisation came about. Most news organisations tried to report as accurately as they could. But they did make mistakes. Fox took it to the extreme an went very far right and tried to cover the fact with a fake slogan of being fair an balanced the started saying all the other programs were liberals when in fact all the others were main stream. I still see the BBC as main stream. We haven't even got a liberal news network yet. I almost wish we had just to show the difference. Far left is no more sickening as the far right. They are both equally sickening. The problem is Fox is so far right that anything to the left of Hitler himself they consider Ultra liberal. And most non political citizens really don't know the difference.

Originally posted by cashthetrashWell this is hyperbole but you're right about the evolution of the news. Unfortunatley, Mr. Murdoch's Fox tapped into the sad fact that ratings are not dependent on the intelligence of the viewers. Fox made millions upon millions by creating these absurd right-slanted talk shows that appeal to the American sense of Team. Like football in Texas. "Either you're with us, or agin us." The ratings boomed, the advertisers flocked to the network, and then fools like CNN followed suit. Copycat after copycat, and here we are.

In the U.S., the only rigorous reporting and fact-checking takes place at the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. If you excise these papers' editorial pages, you'll find the Times is slightly to the left of center (story selection, placing criticisms of Republicans more prominently, and the occasional choice adjective), and the Journal slightly to the right. But if you bother to read the crap in the editorial pages, they're both jibbering screeds extreme in their respective directions.
As for the BBC, they have generally excellent resources and can put together human interest pieces like nobody's business, but I strongly suspect there's some wooly old socialists hanging around the editorial board taking regular pithy stabs at the Tories. Even for Europe, it feels a bit left of center to me.
