Christian Science Monitor has always been a good news source. I have sorely missed Monitor radio since they decided to get out of the world band shortwave news service.

I don't think so. As I recall Monitor radio announced at the time, and it was also printed in their newspaper and several shortwave magazines, that they no longer felt that enough people were listening to shortwave to justify the expense of their worldband news service. However, now that you mention it, I will check their website and see if anything new has happened since that time to change things. I always felt that their world coverage was as good as BBC and perhaps a bit more attuned to the American ear.

Very balanced...

I love his intonations on the strongly emotive words. It's almost farcical, apart from the fact that some people obviously buy into this completely inaccurate BS.

The phrase "no spin zone" used by O'Rielly is total BS .. and that coming from me, someone who would probably be labeled a conservative by most here.
!st .. it isn't a News show" .. it's opinion and entertainment, so to say he or anyone can give an opinion about politics or World affairs without some bias is false.

Don't have enough info to make a judgement on European press/media coverage .. so I won't.
Here in America the media is split .. the conservatives own talk radio and the liberals have a hard time at it. The liberals dominate the TV coverage .. FOX is the only alternative.

None of them are "fair and balanced" .. and they all spin, but it seems to me that mainstream TV (not cable) is the main source for Americans when it comes to getting there daily news reports .. and that source is without question obcessed with Bush-hate and will say/do just about anything to "get" him.
The Left is in deep trouble in America.
They don't have an alternative plan for America. They've been shown (proudly) to be the Party of PC-thought to the extreem. They have lost there total monopoly of the media .. next the disgrace of our education system will be open to view and will be shown to be monopolized by the Left.
The American people are pretty much done with the Democrat Party until them move somewhere near the center.

No alternative plan? I would think that doing the opposite of what Bush has done these past for years domestically, and a bit of appologizing internationally sounds like a reasonable plan to me...

Yes, but hamstrung and underfunded, if not actively abandoned by, the Right. Republican policies are so shert-term it defies understanding -- exactly as if they were awaiting their quarterly earnings.
Eventually it will be a quality-of-life issue, and the undereducated poor will rise up and storm the gated communities.

.. and be shot down in the streets.

I would discribe it as top-heavy and bloated and deserving of being abandoned.

prob shouldn't hi-jack this thread into an Am Ed debate, but if you start a thread i'll contribute.

It's funny how FOX news blows away CNN, ABC, CBS, and all the other media in all the polls. Care to explain that? They must be appealing to "some" people...maybe a few tens-of-million viewers? Even thousands of Canucks are tuning in to FOX news, not to mention Euros and Aussies....must be that "fair and balanced " approach.

Maybe the truth has a liberal taint.

Fox News is great viewing - as entertainment it's wonderful stuff, but it would attract much less criticism if it stopped pretending that putting one weak or extreme liberal on a panel with a more articulate Republican or clerico-fascist is honest television, when we all know perfectly well that it's about as balanced as Chesty Morgan. Like there are any journalists on there anyway.

Hard for us to judge from within the system. I thought the British channels gave a balanced coverage of the Kosovo war AT THE TIME. Later on when the same channels were doing documentaries on what had happened there I found that we had actually been given a very blinkered view.
