There are very few American communists.

And because I’m lazy, I’m just going to repost this:

The divisions in US society became evident in the late 60’s.
Blatant political undermining (the will to cheat to get ahead in politics) followed in the 70’s.
These two things combined started the polarization that’s manifesting itself in the US today.

Then along came Raygun and a hardcore drive for as much laissez-faire capitalism as possible. This destroyed the manufacturing industry leading to a lot of poverty. Also amongst the white working classes.

The USSR fell, and with it a major enemy which could unite the US in a political sense.

Increased poverty, no enemy to unite against and a growing polarization.

Briefly there was the Islamic terrorist threat. But that is way too dragged out (undefined and not really a threat) to keep focussed on.

So. It is time to scape goat.
And with very few elements in place (socialists, trade unions, etc.) to focus on the political system which was creating the mess), the republicans have targetted the democrats as the enemy upon which to focus.

A severly stupid concept, because it undermines democracy. It leads to leaders like trump. People like McConnell who don’t care about hypocrisy, as long as it serves their own political aims.

And, historically, it never ends well.
I’m not sure most Americans are actually aware how close to an actual coup they were / are.

Democracy doesn’t generally die in a blast, but in a beaurocratic entanglement.

106 elected officials attempted to overthrow the election results in a self-apponted court.

Repeat it.
