I was watching Colbert and he cracked a joke about thigh gaps.
Never heard the term before, so I googled it.
That, a gap between the thighs (well, the term sort of does suggest it) near the crotch.
Obviously I then knew what they were on about.
I always thought it was malnutrician. So, women who don’t eat enough.
But seemingly it’s build. Some women have it and some don’t.
However, it became a fashion thing a few years back, with women starving themselves to achieve it. Especially teenagers.
What a crazy world we inhabit.
How come normal and healthy never becomes the fashion?
Why is always something bloody extreme?
I’m just waiting for the day that ears go out of fashion and people get trunks to replace their noses.

I don't understand it either, but it may interest you to know this problem is far more common in the US than Europe. Fashon models in America have the faces of beautiful women and bodies of malnourished 12-year-old boys, while much of the rest of the country is obese due to unhealthy eating habits, low-quality supermarket food, and lack of exercise.

They were supposed to stamp this crap out following the outrage when designers were known to be encouraging the ‘Heroin Look’ but I guess low self esteem + social media is too toxic a mix.

Years ago I used to watch this show called "Top Model", hosted by Tyra Banks. There was one particular model who kept being criticized for not keeping her boobs in check. Tyra said that women with large boobs come across as "pornish" when they pose. Keep in mind this is "large" for models; in my opinion she was average for most women in the U.S.
The woman apparently wasn't able to pose in a way that made her boobs less noticeable and got eliminated. In the post-elimination interview, the woman was in tears, not understanding why she was being punished for what she naturally had. Her final words were that she was "proud" of her body and won't apologize for how she looks.
Damn right.
The modeling world is a backwards, bizarro universe where women built like 10 year old boys are superstars.
Then there's the other extreme that celebrates obese women. I don't mean plus size; I mean actually obese. Lane Bryant frequently features women who will end up with type-2 diabetes. It's considered "progressive" and these ladies are promoted as "real women". Ironically, that very slogan makes their campaign just as guilty of advocating one body type over another as any Calvin Klein ad.

This is why most women go to store after store after store until they find a place where they can find clothes that fit them, and then they rarely go anywhere else. I gave up on Lane Bryant years ago.

Every woman has horror stories how they can't find clothes to fit their particular body type.
That preference alone will make clothes very hard to find for anyone, male or female.

@shavixmir saidI believe that every era has all body types, Venus de Milo where nothing is out of proportion, Venus of Willendorf (global), Renoir type (big hips), Playboy magazine type (big boobs, probably surgically enlarged), Christian icon (asexual), late 20th c fashion model (anorexic), etc. it’s more a question which is idolized than what is normal. That said, where obese is normal, it should not be.
