The time to dump Trump was about 15 years ago when he started the Apprentice.
He was so arrogant on that show I wanted to puke every time I saw him.

THAT is what parlayed him to the presidency and he will go down in the history books as THE worse POTUS in US history, at least so far.

I hope we never have anyone LIKE him again, he is so toxic he singlehandedly near ruined the entire US government.

Putting yes men loyal to TRUMP and TRUMP alone in high office like DeJoy as postmaster general and all the shenanagans he pulled like getting rid of hundreds of letter sorting machines or pulling post boxes specifically to slow down mail in voting.

Then there were the two civilians installed in the Pentagon to oversea military stuff, reporting to Trump, loyal to Trump alone.

Then there was the 'it will all be over by Memorial day' where hundreds of thousands of deaths are directly on Trumps hands for not dealing with Covid like he should have, instead, ignoring it for month after month with the death toll rising and all he can say is ingest bleach, kills covid in MINUTES.

Just how much of this Trumpite bullshyte does it take for people to realize and I mean even the zombies, realize Trump is a criminal pure and simple.

I guess the answer to that is the zombies don't CARE Trump is a criminal because he is their GOD KING, above the law and whatever he does is fine with the zombies.

That's three straight elections where Trump has either lost or watched as his hand-picked candidates have gone down in flames.

I don't know exactly how, but the GOP must find a way to convince Trump to retire or just go away.
somebody made a very good point:

It took Trump losing (3 times) to convince many republicans to give up on him.

Not the racism. Not the lying. Not the corruption. Not the flirting with fascism and the attempted coup. Not any of the other things he did directly or indirectly.

Losing. That's what did it for you. The very first sentence of your original post reveals how much you really care about democracy.
How you win isn't really at the top of your priorities.

Even Liz Cheney has more integrity than you. She drew the line at insurrection.

Two recent polls show Republicans favor Trump over DeSantis by 18 and 14 points for 2024. https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2024/president/us/2024_republican_presidential_nomination-7548.html

That is a big drop in both from pre-midterm polls mostly fueled by a DeSantis increase rather than a Trump drop.

Now that Trump has been reinstated on twitter, expect a flood of ever-more shrill lies from Trump and the Trumpmites. This will convince no one who is not already convinced that Trump is the Messiah, and drive anyone who is still undecided away. Trump has lost the popular vote three times in a row now; if the Republican Party movers and shakers have any sense left at all, they will start grooming an electable candidate without delay.

The Republican establishment didn't like Trump the first time around either. There were many electable candidates in the 2016 primaries.

Republican voters prefer candidates who are celebrities and on TV all the time. I dunno. Maybe Burt Reynolds or something, if he's still alive.

The lower 48 could take a lesson from AK right now and see how to make bi-partisanship work while dumping Trump.

Most Americans want sensible gun control, most Americans want women to have control over their own bodies and reproductive rights, most Americans don’t want Genesis passed off as a scientific theory in public schools, most Americans don’t care whether homosexuals get married but don’t want to see them persecuted either, etc. Most Americans are moderate, but where moderate politicians speak out, they are shouted down by extremists. Wake up, America ! The enemy is not Republicans. The enemy is not Democrats. The enemy is polarization, the enemy is demonizing the other side. The enemy is yourselves when you collectively succumb to a demagogue.
