In reference to the closed thread about Jesus being stoned, I just thought I'd inform you, and anyone else that may have been mislead, that I'm not from China (born and raised in New Zealand), but I am part Chinese.
EDIT: Since this is a debate forum, I suppose I should turn it into one.
Who do you think invented the cannon? The Italians or the Chinese? I saw a documentary on how the Jesuits of Italy traded with the Chinese their inventions and discoveries, but nobody could find out who gave who the idea of the cannon.

shame - we could do with a chinese player or two billion.
Mind you, as English speakers say "have a good time", Chinese speakers say "make a big noise".

Yes, we could use a Chinese player or 2, and I would guess we must have at least one?! I think I would be playing Mahjong if not chess... not the solitare version... the real game, Chinese Poker as you may have heard it called.
If you have never tried Mahjong, do so... very fun, and you run into all sorts of people wondering why you play. It is too funny.
Alright, thanx for the post D-Lax!

I am an American with Taiwanese descent. My parents came from Taiwan. Even though I have Taiwanese descent many people consider me to be Chinese because Taiwanese people were originally from China. I will welcome anyone who wants to play me, but I currently have max games. I will try in the next few weeks to subscribe to this awesome site so I can play more games.
Stephen LiuHi there Stephen,
Just read your profile, you have the EXACT same interests as my Housemate. He's away this week on a meditation course (he's practically instucting), a week in complete silence, no eye contact, the whole jive.
Anyways, seeing as you know a thing or two about the persute of enlightenment, i wondered if i could pick your brains.
My friend started meditating about a year ago, along with Chi kung and Yoga. I've noticed recently in the last couple of months that he's finding all this new information a little hard to get his head around.
It's not that he's finding it difficult to do, i think he's actually achieving exactly what he set out to achieve, the problem is deeper than that.
What i think the problem is (though we haven't talked too much about this as words don't really work when talking about meditation) is that he lives, and is constantly surrounded by Logically minded people. People who've been brought up in the west and only have time for the scientific approach.
He obviously is starting to truely believe (and i don't disagree), that this is only half the picture, this is only the ying if you like. Seeing as he is actively persuing yang (yes this is a crude description, sorry) he is experiencing a conflict.
While he, im sure, would love to spend his time meditating and persuing enlightenment to the full, he constantly has to come back to earth (or move away from it depending your beliefs). This is obviously causing him some real problems.
Did/do you find a conflict between your philisophical persutes and your everyday life? If so, do you have any advice??
As time goes by i can see him distancing himself from people, he wants to leave his job, sell his house, go abroad, stay at home. In other words, he doesn't know what he wants to do, he just knows he has to do something! I can understand, i have the same thing with chess but we won't get into that π
Is this firmiliar to you? He is my best friend in the world and i'd really like to know if this is quite normal for someone starting out on this path or if he's just freaking out (which is possible, he can be a scatty bastard sometimes).

Yes, sometimes it is very challenging to live around people who do not follow the same philosophy as you do. The closer we try to come to our goal of realisations, it seems the further we place ourselves from our friends and peers.
We must realise that these people do not follow the same beliefs, knowing this, we should never challenge their beliefs with our own. We should keep our pursuit to ourself, but not let it interfere with our "social" life. If people wish to know of our progress, of course we should inform them, but we should never boast about it.
