For one, this article is old. Zuma was President 2009-2018. Cyril Ramaphosa is President now. If you followed SA at all, you would know that right off.

SA had a feeling a lot like the antebellum South in those days (ie pre-1994). My dad who had left by ‘62 referred to it as a ‘police state’. We have been back from time to time over the years.
A lot of progress has been made in electrification and water availability and housing in the townships. But it’s a huge change, trying to undo colonialism.
If the whites had invested more in black education, things would have gone better. But they didn’t want to raise their taxes 😆

So who are these 'refugees' actually? They are small Afrikaaner farmers who were not making it without the massive SA Farm Bills and subsidies of the past 'pro-white' governments. So when they were approached by some random American diplomat who said, 'Would you like to come to the US?' They were like, 'Yes, please. Just let me sell my farm and I'll be right with you.'

Of course, having both lived and traveled recently in South Africa, I can say for certain that Afrikaaners are 'economic refugees looking for a better life.' My closest family got out long ago - many have gone to New Zealand or Australia. I have 2nd cousins in Perth, now.

Matches what I have heard over the years. Farmhouses out in the veldt are super isolated. At night, you hear lots of noises - baboons, warthogs, even kudu which are coming back in a lot of places.

Although the figures are not released in detail it is still possible to get some idea of the extent of murders by race... this is an average over the years:
Race / % of murders / % of population
Blacks - 46 % / 82%
Whites - 15% / 7 %
Coloured - 13% / 8%
Asian - 26% / 3%
It is obvious that whites making up only 7% of the South African population and making up 15% of the murders are being targeted. So are Asians.

Asia (although Africa is close below) have the most refugees to US. Asia far outpaces with number of asylees to US. Question is how many from SA would be taking asylum.
