"CAPE TOWN — While controversy over displaced farmers swirled in the United States, officials in South Africa denounced white refugees for leaving before they had a chance to take all their stuff and kill them.
As white South Africans fled to the United States in search of refuge, leaders in their home country expressed outrage that they just took off rather than stay and be persecuted and killed for being white.
"This is unacceptable," said Lungelo Nkosi-Jones, who heads up South Africa's Ministry of White Persecution. "We did not authorize these white people to depart the country without first being robbed, pillaged, and executed. We demand that those fleeing our state-sponsored oppression return to South Africa immediately to have all of their possessions taken away and be killed before they leave."
A white South African farmer seeking refuge in the U.S. was reluctant to comply. "Yeah, I'm not sure that's what I should do," said Hendrick Joubert. "The government's demand that I return to be robbed and executed sounds like I would end up being robbed and executed, which I am not excited about. I think I'll stay away and keep my things and stay alive."

Yeah, Jo'burg is not the touristy area, but you often land there. We rented a van and drove across country for close to 4 weeks. Kruger, down through the Free State, Kimberley, the Kalahari and then Cape Town.
There is crime in South Africa, no question. You have to be really careful in areas like the one he is showing you in this video. Of course I had the same experience in New York City in the 1980's - a friend of mine took us out for the 'Seedy Side of NY' tour. He wouldn't stop at a red light. He hung back mid-block and then when the light turned green floored it. Quite interesting.
Anyway - yes. I mis-read the GPS at one point in Kimberly and got into such an area. We were driving windows partly down, doors unlocked, which was dumb. We stopped at a red light and two guys opened our doors and tried to grab our cell phones. I saw there was no traffic coming, so I floored it through the intersection. Gets your heart rate up. No damage.
We also had a flat tire once and our BnB guy ordered a tow truck to come and fix the tire on the spot. Refused any payment.
So we saw the good, the bad, and the ugly. But it is an amazing country. Safaris, Robben Island, swimming with sharks - the whole deal.
What South Africans whinge on about is how much this is 'a change' from the country they grew up in. That's their biggest beef. Well, whites built a country based on MASSIVE discrimination and inequality. That sort of thing does not get fixed overnight.
The vast majority of South Africans are incredibly polite and law abiding.
