Yes folks, you heard this from a Liberal! Trump got this one right.

President Trump is threatening to derail a $900 billion COVID-19 relief package passed by Congress on Monday after months of bitter negotiations. Trump said the bill was a "disgrace" and called the $600 payments to individuals in the current bill "ridiculously low." He said he wants that boosted to $2,000 per individual and $4,000 for couples — despite the fact that it was Republicans who stood in the way of higher payments for months.

I'm not sure why "The Donald" didn't support Democrats' efforts on this back in May when they were working on the Hero's act, which did many of the same things, but hey - better extremely late than never!

@mchill
I'll believe THAT when I see it. He waffles so much, after Moscow Mitch gets through talking to him, I would not be surprised if he comes out and says I will veto this bill, 600 dollars is WAY too high, it better be 300 dollars or I don't sign.

He wants credit for putting more money into people's hands. He thinks that will get them to approve of him.

Do you think he’s doing this out of the goodness of his heart, he’s trying to split Congress and put himself forward as the nice guy knowing it will not pass.
End result nobody gets the relief funds.

Exactly.

By claiming he won't sign the Bill because it's not good enough, he gets to seem like a hero (to his base) while appeasing Republicans who don't want such a bill passed in the first place.

I'm sure this is true, but this also puts Congressional Republicans in an very ugly situation. Sometimes you have to take your small victories where you find them. 🙂

I think it’s also a dig at the new deep state raw recruit McConnell, at some point he is going to have to remove any serious opposition in the Republican Party.

Nonsense. This is a bomb throw like his last minute veto of the Defense bill. He's had months to negotiate the details of the COVID bill, the government funding bill and the defense bill. He didn't bother to and is now seemingly throwing a tantrum because it has become clear that few Republicans in Congress have the stomach to back his harebrained schemes to steal the election.

He'll either back down or they'll be a complete mess.

A typical post full of lies.

No sane person on this board reading my contributions could ever think that I believe the US is "doing enough to take care of all its poor people."

People should remember that the most likely outcome of Trump's tantrum is not $2,000 stimulus checks for most, but zero stimulus checks for everybody.

EDIT: Depending on whether he sticks to it or not; probably the most likely outcome is still a $600 check.
