If it was a piece of glass, I heard the teleprompter got wacked, that could be what actually hit Trump but that means the shooter missed him by a mile. Just doesn't make sense. Like I said, there have been sniper kills from a mile away.

By trained marksman, yes.

We don't even know if this guy had any training at all.

@no1marauder
This is true, could be a drunk nutter for all we know. But he is dead now and there will be no more information coming from that dude unless he left some kind of manifesto in his flat or was found to be in a fringe group like the Proud boys or something similar.

Yep, Head shots at 150 yards takes a skilled marksman. Guy watched too many movies, if he gone for a torso/center of mass shot Trump would be dead.

You don't think Trump had a vest?

I thought his extra large bulk was courtesy of McDonalds.

Don't see how the shooter could have missed unless it was deliberate.
So if he deliberately missed, being shot dead himself would have come as a surprise?

A vest that would stop a .308 would be huge. I'm not sure if they even make one, I've seen vests that will stop a 5.56 or the Russian 7.62x39, but not the .308, which is much more powerful.

@kmax87
It is a crazy scenario in any case.

People insult Biden for using a teleprompter and now we find out Trump does too...

It was probably a 5.56

Even a 5.56 will penetrate most armor with proper ammunition though. I don't think Trump could have had anything strong enough to stop a 5.56 fmj

Me Little Armalite

Well the army came to visit me, it was in the early hours
With Saracens and Saladins and Ferret armoured cars
They thought they had me cornered, but I gave them all a fright
With the armour piercing bullets of me little Armalite

Even those a very thick and bulky, like a Swat Team vest. Vests that can be worn concealed under a shirt are thin only good for pistol rounds, and not even the more powerful ones..

@AThousandYoung
Is 5.56 a millimeter rating?

Yes 5.56 is the mm caliber for standard NATO rifle rounds* like in the M16. The civilian version is called .223 which refers to inches.

*At least for now. I heard the Army is moving to 6.8mm soon

Yes, you can say that again.

If he wanted to make Trump a martyr, he's done that.
If he's far right and thinks that Trump has gone soft on certain "issues", the right will reject this as fake news.
If he's on the left/far left, believing shooting Trump is the only remedy against the spectre of project 2025, then he's only increasing the odds of a Trump presidency.

It is a crazy scenario.
