We get a 2 time Olympic Gold Medalist &
a U.S. Marine for a Russian arms dealer
-------TRUMP says NYET
Since the 2016 campaign, when numerous Trump associates had ties to the Russian government, the former president has broadcast his soft spot for Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin. As recently as this year, Trump has praised Putin, calling his invasion of Ukraine “g ...[text shortened]... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And now we’re supposed to get her out — and she makes, you know, a lot of money, I guess. We’re supposed to get her out for an absolute killer and one of the biggest arms dealers in the world. Killed many Americans. Killed many people.”

We do not know what Russia's position is on this because such swaps are not made public in Russia, as has been discussed.
So, how can you say Trump sides with Russia?
Trump is clearly against the America's offer, yes, but we all have opinions
and Trump backed up his opinion quite well.
You throw a hissy over this stuff?

1) Griner faces up to 10 years in prison for what most of the civilized world would consider a minor offense. And that's ten years locked up in an authoritarian state where who knows what possible mistreatment awaits her.
2) Trump's comment is sensible on the surface: but this is a man who sided with Russia in front of the whole world over his own government's intelligence. He leaked classified intel to Russian diplomats behind closed doors, and a *bi-partisan* investigation from the Senate found that Trump accepted Russian election interference:

So while Trump's comments seem somewhat reasonable on the surface, his many instances of kowtowing to Russia put his comments in a different light.
@vivify saidI'd add that Whelan has been in a Russian prison since 2018 on a charge the US says he is innocent of (whether that is true who knows?).

And Bout, the arms dealer, has already been in US custody for over 14 years and is serving a 25 year sentence. He's going to be released at some point anyway; why not get two Americans out?
@no1marauder saidI agree.

What ??
A "thimble" for personal use.
She was accused of smuggling with an amount for personal use.
Yes, it was stupid.
But Trump made her out to be a drug smuggler.
But hey !! It works with the straight and narrows !!
@no1marauder saidNeither did Obama your black buddy 🙄
I give Biden credit for ending that mess. Trump promised to, but never had the political balls to actually do it.
@metal-brain saidBS.
The Afghanistan withdrawal was a deal brokered by Trump.
Biden was just following through with Trump's agreement with the Taliban.
There was no change in policy.
Trump didn't withdraw; he had four years to do so.

The Trump administration in February 2020 negotiated a withdrawal agreement with the Taliban that excluded the Afghan government, freed 5,000 imprisoned Taliban soldiers and set a date certain of May 1, 2021, for the final withdrawal
