Trump's Second Term Plans

Debates

"This morning, Time magazine published a cover story by Eric Cortellessa about what Trump is planning for a second term. Based on two interviews with Trump and conversations with more than a dozen of his closest advisors, the story lays out Trump’s conviction that he was “too nice” in his first term and that he would not make such a mistake again.

Cortellessa writes that Trump intends to establish “an imperial presidency that would reshape America and its role in the world.”

He plans to use the military to round up, put in camps, and deport more than 11 million people. He is willing to permit Republican-dominated states to monitor pregnancies and prosecute people who violate abortion bans. He will shape the laws by refusing to release funds appropriated by Congress (as he did in 2019 to try to get Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky to smear Hunter Biden). He would like to bring the Department of Justice under his own control, pardoning those convicted of attacking the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and ending the U.S. system of an independent judiciary. In a second Trump presidency, the U.S. might not come to the aid of a European or Asian ally that Trump thinks isn’t paying enough for its own defense. Trump would, Cortelessa wrote, “gut the U.S. civil service, deploy the National Guard to American cities as he sees fit, close the White House pandemic-preparedness office, and staff his Administration with acolytes who back his false assertion that the 2020 election was stolen.”"

@Phranny

The unspoken part of the plan, of course, is that he would instigate some sort of national-crisis-excuse to set the constitution aside, declare martial law and himself president for life. His unfettered admiration for Putin should be warning enough.

I don't got a problem with any of that.

@Cliff-Mashburn
Of course. You will do FINE in the upcoming dictatorship and the end of democracy here in the US. Just suck up to your god, you will be one of those dishing out revenge and nobody has to worry about that pesky policy thing.

He’ll be a minority president but you think it’s ok for the minority to rule over the majority
That’s gonna go very wrong very quickly given the amount military style weapons sloshing around the US. I suspect Trump will be taken down by a military coup if he tries half of that, or long term a civil war with the wealthier and more populous pro democracy liberal states kicking the village idiots back into their box again

You wouldn't, comrade.

Don't fret about it, little one. This topic is meant for grownups. Stick to playing with your toy tractors.

Read the Time article for yourself, if you can read and then form your own opinions of what you read. It seems like Trump's opinions are your opinions. Trump, on the other hand, doesn't give a damn what you say, as long as you can still vote for him.

He's got 75 million more just like you, unless they've wised up since the last defeat.

@Suzianne
Judging by the lack of even family members at his present NY Trial, with one exception, Eric showing up one day in three weeks, and exactly ONE Trump supporter outside the courthouse and she is a clear nutcase, plus the latest poles show Biden finally pulling ahead of Trump, so his base seems to be weakening.

I think he will play a lot of golf, talk, tweet, and complain about Democrat, but accomplish very little. This is what we should expect after the first term.

Hopefully we don't encounter another national/global catastrophe that requires real leadership.
