If I report to you a tree fell in the woods near where I live that might be reality, but only if I told you the truth. If I told all of your neighbors the same thing you might hear several of your neighbors tell you the same thing I told you. You would be inclined to accept that was the truth. And you would be convinced that is reality.

Only if you look to see if there ...[text shortened]... refused to believe me.

Is is easier to fool people than to convince them they have been fooled.
The reason those news networks retain some level of credibility is that they had it from the beginning. Over time, they picked sides, and when that happened, bias was introduced. Today, the number of people trusting them unquestioningly is eroding dramatically, but unfortunately, they destroyed everyone’s view of truth in the process. People now doubt a single truth that encompasses everyone, which, if you buy into that, you cannot be shown wrong. Look at this discussion: many here believe we each have our own truth, as if truth were a personal opinion. You cannot be shown wrong if you think whatever it is you think is the truth. Because truth has been personalized, if you disagree with someone like that, they think you are attacking them, because it is THEIR truth.

How would you know that?
Because I can be wrong, I can look at one thing, believe it is one way, while it is another, and if I only accept that I think I cannot be wrong. If I get confronted with an unpopular thought I hated but discover it is correct, and I am wrong, I can only do one of two things: hang on to my flawed beliefs, rejecting reality as it is, or change my mind. Doing either of those doesn’t matter; it does not change reality, only me.

I think people can deny truth right in front of them for several reasons, even accepting some truth as long as they miss the main theme they do not want to be true. Just because you see something as true and want to reject it, you can, which is why my own assumptions should be the ones I worry about most. If I do not worry about them the most, it isn’t the truth I am trying to find, but only to be right.

Trying only to be right prevents me from being corrected. I cannot see my errors if I refuse to see them out of a desire to be right. The whole world can be right or wrong about anything. Truth is not altered by a single iota by personal opinion, which is why being grounded in reality is so important. Pride can stop us from admitting we were wrong, even though it is the correct thing to do; not wanting to look less than stops people, but actually admitting you can be wrong is more of a show of strength than weakness.

Why do people still believe in Gods?
Or think vaccinations cause autism?
Or vote trump?
Ah, now, these are questions I can answer.

Why do people still believe in Gods?
a. because some people can't get their minds round the answer 'it's turtles all the way down.'
b. because they like the music (I actually know someone who joined the Orthodox Church bc of the service).

Or think vaccinations cause autism?
a. because something must have caused it. Right? Right??? I mean, everything must have some cause or other, right ?????

Or vote trump?
a. because he embodies something they admire or wish they were themselves.

And that is what explains your posts.

You've gone to the Dark Side.

Most propaganda is by omission. In other words, they want to keep people from knowing relevant history. So people like Suzianne remain ignorant of the relevant facts. Facts like this for example.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mongoose

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northwoods

https://www.britannica.com/event/1953-coup-in-Iran

You can watch every political talk show on Sunday and hear nothing about these facts of history. The propaganda is sickening!

If you undermine truth, then opinions can pass for it.

That does not change the truth, just perception of it.

You are absolutely correct: the issue is that some think their opinions are the truth, so disagreeing with them becomes a personal affront, and you cannot show them errors when they think their every thought is the truth. They do not spend much time debating topics as they do running those who dare to disagree with them.
