As the obesity crises continues in the USA, Conservatives say they defend the 'right to bare fat'.
How many more people have to die from this before we learn?

It's not the governments job to protect people from themselves.

that's funny. Or maybe that's just me...

"Thousands of very fat people die every year in the United States, where it is quite normal for people to have potato chips on their bedside table or keep a doughnut in their car. "

What if you use your fat purely for defensive purposes within your own home?

True, but it is the government's job to protect you from other people, IMO.

Well, that would be nice, but it's not possible. I don't even know who the "other people" would be in this case.

Is law enforcement not possible then? Trials, policeman on street patrol, etc.
I recognise it isn't possible in all cases, we can't protect everyone, but that in no way means we shouldn't try.

I'm not argueing that we shouldn't have law inforcement. I'm argueing that a person being fat is none of the governments business.

I am with you here, but it is my thought that it is government's business to do something about the people selling this unhealthy food, not the people buying it.

Quite clearly this junk food is causing an enormous amount of health problems for hundreds of thousands of people; I would hope that the government could do something about this.

edit: damn spelling...

The companies are not making anyone eat anything. They are not infringing on anyones rights. Just because some people can't eat ice cream in reasonable quantities doesn't mean the makers are criminals.

You're going waaaay down the road to a nanny state.

Hey guys! Let's all sue the government/fast food industry for being fat... 😠 when will people take responsibility for their own actions? There is plenty of good/bad food out there. It's not that difficult to understand that those doughnuts you're eating maybe aren't the best, and that fruit might just be a good alternative, I dunno, maybe?

No, but you can limit their influence on the young by advertising constraints.
Are fast food/junk food ads allowed on tv in the US during children's programs?

Since when have ads influenced you to eat junk food?

I think the primary influence on what you eat is your family and to a lesser extent your friends. That's not government controlled, atleast I hope not 😕
