Listen, Biden was always prone to gaffes, but this is a new level.

Let me be clear to any corporation that hasn’t brought their prices back down even as inflation has come down: It’s time to stop the price gouging.

Give American consumers a break.

Trying to bully corporations (with an implict threat of prosecution) to LOWER prices because inflation is still occuring, but at lower levels?

Aside from being incoherent economically, is he calling for deflation?

@sh76
He just said that to try to convince his base he cares. Saying that doesn't do a damn thing and he knows that. Everybody knows that.

It's called "greedflation" for a reason.

When did it become a crime to call out those who are guilty?

Oh, yeah, since Trump.

I don't agree Biden is actually making threats, implicitly or otherwise. Biden doesn't have the teeth to follow through.

Let's say it is a threat. Price-gouging is illegal in most states. Why is it "bullying" if a prosecution is threatened?

That is what antitrust laws are for.

There is nothing wrong with calling them out, but it is obviously ineffective. They fear the enforcement of antitrust laws, not words. He didn't even threaten to investigate them for potential violation of antitrust laws, not that investigating alone is proof Biden is really trying. He investigated the oil refiners for it and nothing came from it despite the obvious price gouging there. Biden works for the oligarchy and just pretends to do a real investigation of oil refiners.

Prosecution was threatened?
It was not in the quote sh76 posted.

I agree, which is why I said I don't think Biden is making any threats.

My second sentence is just for the sake of argument going with Sh76's belief that Biden's implying prosecution.

I’ll read the responses below, but I am first obliged to say that HE needs to give us a break.
As I type these 2 sentences, approx 35 illegals came into our country. Thanks Joe.

I thought ‘price gouging’ is something that could be opposed legally by a government
It makes economic sense if the price of fuel drops and those businesses that raised their prices to cover the extra business costs when it went up do not lower them again in response to the price drop
Greedflation is a thing

Sadly true. I like Biden, but he's clearly past it. Looks like we'll be left with a choice between a convicted felon, and a guy in his declining years. Of all the possible candidates, I thought our country could do better than this. 😕

I really do not see what’s wrong with the sentence you guys are citing, could someone explain why it’s economically illiterate to expect a food producer that put its prices up to cover the extra transport costs when fuel prices went high to lower their prices when the fuel / transport costs drop back down again
