Venables, who murdered the 2-year James Bulgar in 1997 and who was released from custody prematurely in 2001, has been recalled to prison for having breached the terms of his release license but details have been witheld despite public concern.
Why is it that the welfare of criminals of all descriptions from child murderers to muzzie terrorists takes precedence over all else in Britain today?
We need to chill out with this authoritarian attitude. Not only is it wrong, but we can't afford it and it's drawing police resources away from going after the really scary thugs.
In addition, it leads to a lack of respect for the justice system leading to more crime.
Originally posted by Leon AlvaradoThe report in The Telegraph - which as recently as Thursday argued convincingly against revealling details of the case to the public* - quotes The Sun tabloid and The Sun quotes or cites no one - basically taking advantage of the fact that the authorities have a committment to maintain secrecy and therefore cannot confrim or deny the tabloid's claim, and using the automatic and completely understandable legal threat to lend 'credence' to its claims. Classic tabloid manoeuvre. It just baldly makes the claim, saying, "...The Sun can reveal." Bit strange.

It goes on to say: "If Venables is found guilty of the offence, it will represent a staggering failure in his close supervision by the Justice Ministry's Probation Service." Of course, the facts of the matter are exactly the opposite in this case. This prompt rescinding of his parole shows that the Justice Ministry's Probation Service has handled the case with propriety and the "close supervision" has resulted in him being taken back into custody, rightfully, if the tabloid's allegations are true.

James Bulger’s killer Jon Venables transformed into ‘cokehead with raging temper’ after jail release
By Andrew Gregory 4/03/2010
Child killer Jon Venables life has descended into one of drug abuse and brushes with the law since he left jail nine years ago.
The 27-year-old began snorting cocaine and popping ecstasy pills while throwing himself into his local night club scene.
He is also said to have a raging temper that has landed him in hot water with the police and ended with him back behind bars for breaching parole conditions set when he was freed in 2001.
Venables (above left), who murdered toddler James Bulger in 1993 with fellow thug Robert Thompson, was hauled back to prison after a bust-up at work.
A source last night lifted the lid on his secret life of drug addiction.
It was revealed that until last Christmas, Venables was buying one gram of cocaine a week to feed his habit.
...
Pictures of innocent James being led away to his death by the two thugs, brought back the horrors for millions of how such a wicked crime could have been committed in a supposedly civilised society.
After he was snatched from the busy shopping centre in the full glare of hundreds of people Venables and Thompson took him on a two-mile walk of terror around the streets of Liverpool. He was taken past bystanders and shoppers around the city, his face bleeding and looking terrified.
Nobody suspected the two innocent-looking 10-year-olds had snatched the boy and if quizzed by anyone, they gave plausible excuses as to their action.
They later beat the petrified tot, threw modelling paint in his face and battered him with bricks, stones and a 22lb iron bar. The pair of yobs then led him to a remote railway where he was savagely killed.
Venables, reportedly, kept telling strangers who he was. His sense of self, reportedly, is crumbling.
No word on Thompson, the one who showed no remorse, thought to be an undiagnosed psychopath -- which, if true, could mean that, never having had a sense of self to begin with, he has adapted to invisibility very successfully and is doing whatever best pleases him somewhere out there.

What a load of sensationalist drivel. One gram a week? Marvin Gaye was using upward of an ounce a day (28 grams). It's like saying someone has a two bottle of wine a week alcohol habit.

Him and around 1 million other people in the UK who party every weekend.

Actually, though, all this feverish speculation - which FMF rightly pointed out exists only to sensationally fill a vacuum, given the government's correct decision not to release details as to why he has been recalled - has left a bad taste in my mouth. It seems to me - at this stage, at least - to be a classic example of the difference between public interest and what interests the public.
The vast majority of life-sentenced prisoners released on a life license are never recalled, pointing to the relative effectiveness of the agencies involved in allowing and monitoring those releases. In this case, when the terms of the license were alleged to have been breached, the person in question was recalled. Again, the system seems to be working. Even if in this case further offences have been committed, they have been detected and the person in question will face the law. Again, the system will have worked.
Even if one does not agree with the release of life-sentenced prisoners on license in general terms,, there still remains the question of what else ought to have been done in this unique case. Over to the shrieking Leon for his considered view on the matter...

Marvin Gaye was rich! he could afford an ounce a day!
Calls to raise the age of criminal responsibility from 10 to 12 have been rejected by the government.
England's children's commissioner Maggie Atkinson had told the Times that most criminals under 12 did not fully understand their actions.
But the Ministry of Justice said those over 10 knew the difference "between bad behaviour and serious wrongdoing".
Dr Atkinson said James Bulger's killers should have taken "programmes" to turn their lives around and not been jailed.
She also said civilised society should recognise that children who commit offences needed to be treated differently from adult criminals.
The age of criminal responsibility in many European countries ranges between 14 and 16, but in England, Wales and Northern Ireland remains at 10.
In Scotland, the age is currently eight, but legislation is being passed to raise it to 12.
AGES OF CRIMINAL RESPONSIBILITY
* 7 - Switzerland, Nigeria, S Africa
* 8 - Scotland, Sri Lanka
* 10 - England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Australia, New Zealand
* 12 - The Netherlands, Canada, Greece, Turkey
* 13 - France
* 14 - Italy, Germany, Bulgaria, Romania, China
* 15 - Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Czech Republic, New York (US), South Carolina (USA)
* 16 - Spain, Japan, Texas (US), Poland
* 18 - Belgium, Luxembourg, most US states

The oddest thing about this whole story is that in the eyes of some (you know who you are) the fact that Venables was 10 years old when he murdered Bulger makes the crime more horrific. But clearly one can expect less responsibility from a 10 year old than from an adult, so the adult's crime should be punished more severely.

There, they poured model paint in his eyes and beat him repeatedly !
When he was dead, or close to death they then placed him on thre railway line to be cut in half by a on coming train.
There is nothing "odd" about this story , just two evil 10 yr olds who should of stayed in jail for at least 20 yrs or more !!
Sometimes the human race just throws up bad ,evil specimens !!
