Was anybody else as disgusted as me by the display during Jack Straw's speech yesterday?
Since when is it such a crime to heckle at a conference?
How can they justify throwing out an 82-yr-old labour supporter for daring to refuse to toe the party line?
The quote from the Labour Party Chairman is the one that really got me...
"He was asked to calm down and be quiet, he could have taken that opportunity and watched and listened to the debate but he chose to continually disturb the event and so we removed him."
How can he call it a debate, if there is only one person speaking, and no-one is allowed to contradict or question him?
Totalitarianism, anyone...?ðŸ˜

Just to make a spiritual connection, is new labour's doctrinaire attitude fuelled by Tony's religious beliefs?
A kind of Papal Infallability principle, converted for The Holy Church of Tony...

I only heard of the incident and did not see it. However I'm typing this about 300metres from the conference.I can tell you that Brighton is under siege. The other day I counted 64 armed police on a mile walk across town.
You cannot walk past the Brighton Centre, Grand Hotel and Metropole even on the other side of the road, they even blocked the beach at one point.
The restaurant I run has suffered 25% sales drop, as the "politicians and media circus" live in their own hotel bubble. No locals come into town during conference.
This democracy in action. Your taxes are protecting and preventing priviledged few from getting close to, or spoken to, by their public.
Oona King ate here last night - alone. I thought if this is how labour treats the people that lose important election seats. How does it treat the vulnerable in society?

The inexorable erosion of basic freedoms (free speech, the right to catch a tube without being summarily executed, you know the kind of thing...), to give themselves more power over all of us...
What can I/we do about it. We are turning into a police state. Yet I'm not really prepared to become an anarchist. I would like to think that the Lib Dems would offer a greater sense of liberty, but they have no chance of governing under the current system.
Labour is still slightly better than Tory and therefore but they (politicians) will always do what they want.
Don't get me angry.
Originally posted by tojoWhat made me even more enraged was that when someone spoke up about the security chucking this tiny frail man out, they threw him out as well. That really is brownshirt tactics at work, now you're not even allowed to stand up when you see oppression in action.

Now try to tell me this act will not be abused by Labour for thier own gain???
EDIT - Just read Starrman post, he beat me to it...!
