This quote is from Carl Sagan's last book he wrote it circa 1995...
“I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness...
The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance”
― Carl Sagan, The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark
@wildgrass saidSounds like a bunch of Democrats and their kids. Carl Sagan was brought up a liberal Democrat, so its no suprise he will see the worst of American culture and society and it would have been easy to predict the decay in standards and conduct.

@Rajk999 saidWhy should we listen to you, someone who cannot see his own failures?
Sounds like a bunch of Democrats and their kids. Carl Sagan was brought up a liberal Democrat, so its no suprise he will see the worst of American culture and society and it would have been easy to predict the decay in standards and conduct.
@Rajk999 saidYu are saying that a liberal Democrat upbringing makes it easier to predict the future?

@wildgrass saidDemocrats need to learn to read.
Yu are saying that a liberal Democrat upbringing makes it easier to predict the future?
@Rajk999 saidMaybe reread what you wrote.
Democrats need to learn to read.
In 1995, It was easy for Carl sagan to predict the current future because he was raised liberal.
I don't agree. I think he was just a thoughtful person who was concerned about what the loss of manufacturing was going to do to our society. He was absolutely correct to be worried about this.
@wildgrass saidYou cannot even cut and paste. Either that or you are deceitful. My actual quote was :

@Rajk999 saidYeah I read it twice. He predicted correctly. You write it is easy to predict because of his upbringing.

Stupid but simple sound bites dominate the news now. The counterpoint about body autonomy, risks, and medical imaging supporting abortive procedures takes a lot longer to explain than "Keep babies alive" and no one has the attention span for anything more.
Crime rates fell by a lot in 2024 and yet we still went through a campaign where half of us thought the opposite because they were watching doctored YouTube and tiktok videos. Carl sagan predicted all of it in 1995.
