Yeah, it is often embarassing. I don't get it either. One problem is that the rich or well-off are the only ones who can afford to send their kids to school, so we end up with an increasingly stupid electorate.

I am a 78-year-old woman born during World War II. Algebra was taught at my high school, chromosomes weren't in my vocabulary because at that time even simple organic chemistry was a university-level subject. And only rich families sent daughters past Year 10 back then.
