People are lauding the creation of the spirituality forum as a mark of progress for the site, because finally those holy rollers have a place of their own and they can go off and be by themselves. I disagree. I think we lost something when the new forum was created. There are alot of ideas out there, some good, some bad, and some just pure crackpot, ...[text shortened]... g louder than the other guy. But the discussions here have become watered down and homogenized.
there isn't a thought police running around making sure your topics
or point of view don't fit acceptable criteria, much like the real world,
hide it don't bring out points of view that are spiritual in nature it isn't
acceptable.

There are alot of ideas out there, some good, some bad, and some just pure crackpot, but the free flow of ideas has always led to greater enlightenment.
Heated, slanderous, off-topic, etc. attacks aren't what I consider a "free flow of ideas".
While in theory I can agree with your post on some levels, in practice it doesn't work out like that. Maybe in hundred years you'll have resolved enough of the religous contentiousness and the idea of a seperate forum would seem an anathema to everyone, but today it's not like that.
You need a minimum level of tolerance for two people of opposite personalities to live together, below that level and it's far better to keep them apart than to let them claw each others eyes out.

Seems like my opinion is in the minority, which is a place that I'm comfortable with. I know what you're talking about when you say "teeth-grindingly, suicidally boring", but, and I mean this with all due respect, I just go ride my bike or eat an apple before I let things get that bad. One of the things I've learned in life is that we cannot - an ...[text shortened]... lternatives to waiting for someone to say something intelligent. That's all. Have a good day.
That's what happened, for the most part. You may not have realised it because all the people who stayed made up for the loss of people with an increase in all the heated, argumentative, mud-slinging intolerance.
