Since the federal govenment is unfalliable, there is no reason for me to question whether or not a government plan is constitutional or not. I mean look at other countries that have had strong central governments and how well they have faired. There is the National Socialist government in Germany. I heard they are moving up in the world. Oh, and the USSR being the strong powerhouse in Europe and Asia expanding their influence in the world.

And when we are standing in bread lines, it will be your fault and the faults of people like you.

I'd personally pay housewives a state subsidy - in narrow productive terms (which is to say, the terms nearly all proponents of liberal capit ...[text shortened]... n no job, even if most of the jobs we're talking about are a huge waste of social resources.
I think it's a great concept and a reasonable system. But that abuse of the system should not be tolerated - by those who see it as a career, an alternative to a day job.
I wholeheartedly agree that housewifes/mothers do a worthy job, but I'm not sure I'd pay them a subsidy. Maybe tax relief for them or their partners.
In any case, your examples of worthless jobs aside, there are a huge number of jobs which simply aren't being done, due to lack of funding presumably. Street cleaning is one - aside from city centres it's hardly done at all. Surely paying people to do these jobs would be better than paying people to sit at home.
Also, how about paying people an extra welfare bonus if they do voluntary work for charities?

I finally came up with a solution to welfare today. If you want to go on welfare, you can. You can do it for the rest of your life if you want. However, if you are going to relie on the state, then the state, in a sense, controls you; and since you are not paying taxes (you ARE on welfare after all), all you have to do is forfeit your right to vote.
...[text shortened]... could go on with this for a while but I would like to see anyone else's opinions on this.

The income tax was never to exceed 2%. What is it now? 25% for the poor and something like 90% for the rich. That's really fair.
Bush just gave you guys a Trillion dollar tax cut a few years ago. The average rich person got about $5-10,000 in tax cuts.
How much did you get if you earn 25K/year? Works out to about to what, 3 bux a week in tax cuts for you?
Is that fair?

But how many black families can give their kids white collar jobs? Nepotism buddy.
Also, I see quite a lot of black homeless. If their families can take care of them so well, how come they're on the streets?
There's just more money in white hands.

Oh course there is going to be a huge difference in the tax cut since there is a 100 fold difference in earnings. Seems fair to me. I can't blame the rich just because they make more than me.

Originally posted by uzlessThe US was set up to not have a strong central government. Welfare was only the beginning of the end. First the government tells the citizens who should have the money. Next, they start infringing on other rights. Soon the government controls every aspect of life. You don't have to believe me but it is happening.
Canada has a strong central government..so does sweden...or do you just mean a communist government?
If welfare is for the "public welfare" of the citizens, then you can use that same line of reasoning to control other aspects. "But slap, what are you talking about?" you may ask. Look at the Patriot Act, survellance (sp?) and wire tapping, and hold people without trial. That's what happens with a strong central government.
BTW, don't people in Canada go to the US for health care because the list is so damn long? That sounds like that is working. And Sweden is just a bunch of douche bags (not really, I just didn't have anything to say about them).
Originally posted by slappy115Your suggestion is very similar to poll tax - it's buying votes away from people, and preventing people who can't get jobs from voting. Poll tax was when people couldn't afford to pay tax weren't allowed to vote.
Ever heard of your mom? I really didn't have anything to say to that.
BTW, don't people in Canada go to the US for health care because the list is so damn long? That sounds like that is working.Yes we can go to the US to have some procedure if we don't want to or can't wait. The government still pays the tab.
You can still buy private health care insurance if you want and go to a private clinic. The government cutting some of the waiting times down on the public clinics but it's not that big a deal.
The US government currently spends more per person on health care than the Canadian government, yet ours is free when we go to the doctor whereas you guys have to pay for it.
