He has said and still says, no taxes on those making under $400K per year. But he is also having the IRS go after waitress's tip money. Any common sense answer here?
And I loved this comment ...... "We are going to need oil for at least another decade!!!!!" Jesus
I loved that one.
And he knocked oil companies for buying back their own stock. Uhhhh, this is a capitalist country, last I checked. So he is against capitalism.?

Somethings happening.

Republicans want to eliminate the income tax altogether and go with a sales tax. We'll see.
I remember at one time that a study revealed that there was more money spent adjudicating
taxes on the poor than the money they collect from the poor. make sense???

Sales tax is a direct tax on the poor of course scumbag republicans are for it and it means they can give their bosses in the big oil and pharma corporations another tax cut 🤮

The puzzle before us: Biden promised no taxes on those earning under $400K. THEN he hires, or plans to, 87000 IRS agents to investigate the tip income of waiters and waitresses, and bartenders.
Kev, maybe you are the only one who can 'splain this?

Your comment has nothing to do with responding to this puzzle.

It’s like it costs more to administer welfare and have staff make people jump through hoops to get welfare payments than the payments themselves.

I’ve explained it the the thread that you’re now repeating for no apparent reason.
But on a general note I’m a long way from rich and I’m quite happy to pay my taxes and I wish my government would hire more tax department employees and shut all the loopholes for the rich and corporations.
You should be more concerned that employers are using the charity of patrons to subsidise their wage bills.

Then there is the cost of the IRS, and dont forget the cost of paying accountants to prepare your taxes. Google THAT one!
So, to your statement of cost of administration, we need to go to the Fair Tax concept, which would do away with IRS and with accountants (they have a HUGE lobby, if you can imagine). The cost of IRS could then be shifted to pay for the homeless, welfare, and much more.

But to the point of my post....it is about the hypocrisy of Biden, who, on the one hand, has said he will not tax people who earn under $400K, but on the other hand is sicking the IRS on waiters, bartenders who earn tips.
I am not being argumentative, there may be an explanation , it may be poor reporting, I dont know. But what is the deal??

I’ve explained the erroneous reporting in the previous thread but if these tips are incorporated into their wages they should be incorporated properly in that they should appear in their gross earnings, it’s the greedy business owners who have turned an ad hoc payment into a subsidy of his / her wage bill that’s caused the issue

Biden wants to eat the rich and take their money. This will save tax dollars in two ways. 1) We will get rid of the leeches that take and waste government money, thereby reducing federal spending, and 2) We won't have to impose such high tax burdens on the middle class.

Campaign contributions in the last presidential election topped $14.4 billion. The most expensive election ever, and will only be topped by the next one, and the next one, and the next one. Do we really want to keep pretending that the $14.4 billion is pouring into these politicians pockets with no strings attached?

The money in politics is why Warren Buffett pays a lower tax rate than his secretary.

Wildgrass, you Kev are on about taxes, fed spending, etc, but the question is about waiters who make way less than !400k, who are in no way going to be taxed by Pres Biden. He says it all the time.
But today”s news report that waiters and bartenders will be scrutinized to be sure they report their tips. Wildgrass, why is Biden doing this if the waiters and bartenders will never make $400k?
Can you and Kev speak to that ?

Yeah if you want my serious answer, there's a difference between changing tax law and enforcing existing ones. One can scrutinize compliance with paying taxes owed without imposing any new taxes.

Under the table earnings is illegal.

Don't get me wrong, I detest income taxes. It incentivizes the wrong things. We should tax wealth, not income.
