Originally posted by chancremechanicI'm sick as a dog; I haven't been able to get out for days and I missed an OTB tourney this weekend that I was going to use as a prep for a big local tourney in a couple of weeks. So I decided to play my games in the Monsters of Rock tourney and dip a toe back in the Forums but try to avoid the nastiness that many of the discussions sank to in the past. How long I can keep this up I can't say ..............
OK, I'll concede that I should not have called him a "pussy". I hereby retract that statement....too late to self-edit...sorry. I agree that his story should be debated on a neutral field, such as The O'Reilly Factor 😉.....And he does seem to slam the gov't more than the troops, but he still owes it to his fellow Marines to report, debate, an ...[text shortened]... e change....hope you are feeling well....did the Sabbatical from RHP change you? I'm curious..
From what I can see, Massey started taking his story to the local newspapers within a short time after his December 31, 2003 discharge (there's an online article from the Mountaineer a North Carolina newspaper discussing his experiences dated February 11, 2004) and gave interviews to a number of media outlets but he was ignored by the big boys for what I think were political reasons i.e. if the Democrats had nominated Dean, an outright opponent of the war rather than a supporter like Kerry, the NY Times and other mainstream "liberal" outlets probably would have been interested. The story is that he couldn't find an American publisher which probably means he couldn't find a major American publisher for his book and since they thought it would be unprofitable here, he went overseas. It's not a huge surprise that the French public would be thought to be a good market for such a book. So what? The guy's entitled to make a buck by telling his story; plenty of combat veterans have done the same thing (how many generals have written memoirs and made big bucks?).
Originally posted by zeeblebotKinda hard to write a book for a French audience without a French co-writer, ain't it? Was the Mountaineer and the Smoky Mountain News, two rural North Carolina newspapers where his story was mentioned more than a year and a half ago "left wing"? The question Chance asked was why major US media outlets didn't publicize his story last year (and in fact have ignored it this year as well); I gave my proposed answer. Do you have an answer to Chance's question?

he gets 38K hits, almost all on leftwing sites ... apparently the effort to censor him has not been successful ...
noticed his book was co-written with a french journalist ...
Originally posted by zeeblebotSo far as I know, the NY Times never published his story and the SacBee is so major I'd (and I'll wager 99% of the people on this site) never heard of it. If you're going to insist that the Mountaineer and the Rocky Mountain News are "left wing", you'll have to actually produce some evidence of it rather than musings that they may be run by Cornell grads (do you think all Cornell grads are left wing?). I did searches of the FoxNews, MSN and CNN websites and the only hit on Jim Massey was a mention by Joe Scarborough that Massey's accused Marines of murder, which is patently false.
Sacbee and NYTimes are major.
EDIT: The second newspaper was the SMOKY Mountain News, not the Rocky Mountain News.
All of this is besides the point. Read his interviews and articles yourself and decide; I supplied the links. You don't only read articles and interviews from conservative websites and newspapers, do you?
what i saw from the google posted above was that he's been running around to as many journalists as possible (including al-jazeera) complaining about how traumatized he is, having been forced (by undertraining or incorrect training or wilfull conspiracy) to assassinate innocent iraqis ...
look, he has a website! and DVDs for sale: http://www.jimmymassey.com/
kind of like Michael Moore's mini-me ... his glasses are slightly different ...

so, no1m, what's your theory as to why the NYTimes is censoring Jimmy Massey's poignant tale? ...
has Wolfowitz got the editorial board under his thumb? ...

so, he should get a bye and whatever he says, the rest of us should shut up about it? ...
Originally posted by LordOfTheChessboardWow, you mean the French are facilitating the publishing of a book by an ex US marine that paints the US action in Iraq in a negative light? Thats a shocker! Do you think the jerk may be trying to make a few bucks? Do you recall that many US troops were being killed by carbombs at checkpoints? This guy seems taken aback that they were told to shoot those in vehicles that wouldn't stop when approaching checkpoints. It seemed quite logical to me. I suspect Isreali military also shoot folks they catch running onto busses laden with explosives. I think the British had better learn to do the same. Unfortunately if arab terrorists want to continue dressing as civilians and blowing up innocent people there will continue to be bloodshed in trying to prevent it.Heck I blame America for terrorists. If it wasn't for America these people would all be content praying in their Mosques and playing in the sunshine....Give me a break! These people live for violence and bloodshed. They would look for any excuse to chop off someone's head...they enjoy it.
here the story of a us marine who fought in iraq and admits he killed over 30 innocent civillians.

Your insulting attitude towards the man is typical of the Neo-Cons who are quick to support all manner of wars provided they and their loved ones don't have to serve in them. Since you find the war in Iraq such a worthy and necessary project, I'm quite surprised that you haven't voluntered to carry a rifle into combat like Jim Massey did. Since you have not, you should at least have the common decency to show some respect for a man that was willing to do the fighting you are unwilling to do yourself, but feel free to cheerlead for.
