noticed that www.jimmymassey.com appeared in the Sponsored Links advertisement block on the right with the title "Why Aren't We Safer?" ... hit reload and the title changed variously to "The US Is Not Safer", "Civilian Deaths in Iraq" ... and block description "Marine Staff Sergeant Jimmy Massey reveals the truth behind the war." or "US Marine Staff Sergeant Jimmy Massey reveals the truth."

So if I understand correctly you guys do not believe someone who was there , witness to the horrors, and even admits to have taken part in it. Because he's only trying to make money.
While you do believe a politician and his oil greedy friends?

Did you actually bother to read the article or the interviews with Massey that I supplied the links to?

If anyone wants to discuss Massey's main points that various decisions of the US military command led to unnecessary civilian deaths and that the result of these deaths was ultimately a strengthening of the insurgency, then please read the articles and address the points. If all that is going to be written here is how Jim Massey, a 12 year Marine and combat veteran, is a "pussy" or "psycho" or in league with our "enemies" the French, then I don't feel any need to address such irrational, hateful drivel.

Read Judy Miller's articles on WMD's in Iraq right before the war that were a front page series in the NY Times. Read the recent revelations on the source of those articles (a badly kept secret to be sure). Try figuring out what the NY Times' position on the war was and is. HINT: Actually reading it some time might help.

Basically Mr. Massey faults Marines for shooting people who try to run checkpoints, because he believes some Marines are paranoid and trigger-happy due to exaggerated intelligence reports about Iraqi suicide bombers.

I call that irrational.

Where does it say those people were trying to run checkpoints? If you read the articles, you would know that Massey is referring to the early stage of the war and that the US had dropped leaflets and other materials urging iraqi civilians to leave Baghdad. You would know that failing to stop when immediately challenged may be due to a number of factors. You would also know that Massey's troops NEVER found any explosives in any of these vehicles.

When were the first suicide bombings in Iraq at a checkpoint? And stating someone is "irrational' without giving your reasons for believing so isn't much of a "debate", is it?
