The Repubs won two seats in the Senate in 2018. IDK if that’s a Dem “smashing victory”
Only because 26 of the 35 seats were previously held by Democrats or independents caucusing with Democrats. So 24 of 35 races in the Senate were won by Democrats and 235 of 435 House seats.

Huh you want to worry about small fry like hunter when you have a whole family of thieves and traitors waiting in the wings to get their grubby little paws on the money making machine that is the White House.
Don't you see, it is all In The Future, from now forward. Are you REALLY going to study Jan 6 and kids in cages 3 years ago? And the WHY of it??
When,,instead, we are seeing history in the making? You can INDEED write about thieves and grubby paws, all that is happening. I will too!!! That is all I am trying to shine a light on. One useless discussion will be,.. when the election is all counted up next week, ...how it all happened. I for one will not be at all interested in how it got that way. But Sonhouse et al will write on into the night. I see more interesting things on the horizon.
Oh, watch what equities do a day or so from now.

Democrats have abandoned the most effective tool they have for achieving their goals:
making small changes over time (incrementalism)
Why would they do that? Incremental changes over a long period of time allowed voters with short memories to be lulled into accepting changes (good or bad) without questioning them.
But three years is not nearly enough time for most people ...[text shortened]... n is a sense of urgency... fear of a successful Trump second term following a successful first term.
Hell, man...They spent millions more on abortion ads than they did on Economy Inflation and Crime.....when their citizens were telling them what they were worried about....Economy, Inflation and crime! Why would they do that? Don't me started. Just stupid, maybe ?
Next they will go on ad nauseam on Climate Control, when it loses ground every day, wind and solar is constantly shown to be stupid, also. Cant be done. It is going down. Watch what is about to unfold. Golly, they will have nothing else to run on. They have certainly shown what they can't do.

To your question ......... Yes.....
Because he is still at it, and he will continue to be at it.
And he is a poster boy for authoritarianism in the US.
This not an old issue, or history as you might like to call it. It's happening now.
He admires Putin, takes a great, and complimentary, interest in Xi Jinping move to remove term limits from his rule.
He cuddles with Kim ...[text shortened]... democracy ????
Well, you know what I think ....... re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic !!!!
I do not argue with your posts. You have opinions. We all seem to have diff defs of words like authoritarianism ....I certainly see it as different than you do. You say Trump is, I say the entire Dem party is. So, we discuss that. No need to rehash old news, he wrote a love letter to Kim. Don't you think he had a subtle reason to do that ? I don think it was to get money from Kim, it was rather to improve relations, maybe you dont want him to be a success in that ? Well, discuss it. And Putin, and Jinping.
Defining unfair would be a great post. But a lib will say if I have $5k and he $300, that is unfair. Maybe it is. Lets thread that one, just not Jan6!!
To your last sentence, is a democracy where 51% can decide an election, or the EC? I am confused, because we are EC, and yet y'all are all saying wtoe have save the Democracy....when you do not want an EC. Please answer me that one.

He has already started raising "red flags" about results in Pennsylvania and Georgia which are close races that could tilt either way.
i.e. - if we win, we celebrate, if we lose, we do the whole 2020 stuff over again.
Are not we all raising our respective flags and opinions, as citizens, just like Trump is a citizen? I do not get your point here. He should Not raise his own opinions?

Trump hardly had a "successful first term". Even with a Republican controlled Congress in his first two years, he didn't pass a single piece of significant legislation except the inevitable tax cut tilted to the rich that every Republican President does. Even before he mismanaged COVID, the American People had already passed judgment on him by delivering a smashing victor ...[text shortened]... r Democrats in 2018. And once the pandemic hit and the economy collapsed, he had no ideas to fix it.
Oh, Please. An unsuccessful presidency ........

@Kilroy70 - said "How do you know Trump will be a Republican candidate two years from now?"
----------------------

Agreed. Trump could become too impaired to run, or he may simply be beaten by someone in the primaries.
Trump made a lot of enemies for himself, and in the meanwhile, the party has rising stars like DeSantis and Youngkin.

It's too far away with too many variables to ponder.

Or he may choose to continue doing what he is doing now. I doubt even he knows for sure what role he will choose to play in 2024, because as you say it's too far away with too many variables.
My gut tells me he will continue to be highly influential whether he runs for office or not.

@kilroy70 saidthree years is not nearly enough time for most people to forget how well this country was doing before the present administration took over.
I stand corrected. Three years is more than enough time... in fact, 20 months is more than enough time.

three steps forward, five steps back

That old issues are recognized as history, no need to be discussed. That, we are where we are. Would it not be refreshing if Sunhouse wrote about anything but you know who.. ‘Anything’ would be defined as the future of this country. The now. Not the unfortunate January 6. We all know that happened. We all know it is being investigated, we all know that somebody probably ...[text shortened]... he becomes a new factor with a new scenario? I do not care what Trump did yesterday. Do you really?

Those on the losing side of history, historically, are most apt to wish that it be forgotten.

It do not really bother with Lowest Percentile Joe's blithering anymore. The problem, for me, is that it is very much like arguing with an uncle I once looked up to in childhood, but now has succumbed to clinical dementia and is suffering from paranoid delusions and terrifying fears. I find that depressing, and there is no winning the arguments, of course, because the memory is shot. His posts are essentially the same ten things just rearranged and reworded, over and over and over again. I don't need that.
