There was a time when the best music was coming out of the UK, the Yardbirds, Cream, Led Zeppelin, the Who, the Beatles, the Stones. One might even put U2 in there if they hadn't gone pop. But these days UK rock just plain sucks. All you see out of the UK now is pop crap. Where did the heart and soul go?

Try:

Hope of the States
The Libertines
Maximo Park
Brakes

for good newish British rock.

Hope of the States was pretty weak, at least what was on their website. The Libertines were pretty rocking though. I couldn't find any Maximo Park to download or listen to online, I will try again when I get back from work. The Brakes look promising, at least from the revues, but I wasn't able to find anything to listen to or download.

No, I'm not stupid. All we get over here is crap like Coldplay. You all can keep that pap. I want rock, not some pansy crooner.

If you like Brakes, try British Sea Power (one of the same people). Similarly, if you like the Libertines, try Dirty Pretty Things and Babyshambles.

EDIT Dirty Pretty Things haven't released anything; I just suspect they'll be good because they are composed of most of the former Libertines.

Try:
Artic Monkeys..the fastest ever album uk debut album sellers
Jamie T..the next big thing
Franz Ferdinand..Scotlands finest
Kaiser Chiefs...the last big thing
Coldplay...glum rocks finest

I would say that after a lull from 1997 to 2002 UK rock music is on the way back up.

My bad, I thought that U2 was from northern Ireland (which is part of the UK, I believe) but it appears that they are from Dublin. Okay they are out.

Most of the new stuff, and especially the popular stuff, is utter tripe. The Manic Street Preachers (Welsh) are still churning out the good stuff though, of which three free songs are available here:

Yes, one might even put U2 in there, if they were from the U.K.! 😠 Jesus weeps. 800 years of struggle, 80 years of freedom, and people think U2 are from the UK. I just don't know why we bother sometimes. A plague. A plague on all your houses.

Wadda ya mean? Starrman is doing a Kenny Loggins cover band to help the UK get into the swing of 'fine' Rock-N-Roll.
