Bachelor of Arts; it's a four year college degree in the good ole USA. Poly Sci was actually my major many years ago.

Back to the subject: according to this article, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/middle_east/4650788.stm

Hamas has won overwhelmingly, gaining 76 seats in the 132 seat Parliament with some others going to Hamas allies. Given all the lip service the West and particulary the US has given to the need for "democracy" in the Middle East, can they ignore the wishes of the Palestinian people on who should lead them? Isn't this gross hypocrisy?

Democracy is more than winning the majority of votes. As Condy said: "You can't have one foot in democracy and the other in terror".

That about sums it up.

Obviously the majority of the Palestinian people don't feel that armed resistance to an illegal, repressive occupation is "terror" like Condi does. Go figure.

The situation has become very interesting. Just like Sharon was the only one being able to "persuade" the settlers to leave the Gaza strip, I hope Hamas will be the one being able to persuade the Palestinians and their Arab financiers to recognise the State of Israel ... and in the end bring peace to the region.

You mean, like ignore the wishes of the palestinian people to
demolish Israel. I guess thats ok but its totally wrong if Israel
wishes the destruction of Palestine.

The Palestinians recognized the state of Israel long ago, Ivanhoe, even before Oslo.

The majority of Israelis don't think there should be a truly independent Palestinian state; the majority of Palestinians don't think there should be a Jewish run state controlling most of the territory of Palestine. The majority on both sides aren't going to get all they want. (Shrug). That's what usually happens in life.
